It was explained to me that the story of persistent prayer found in Luke 11:1-13 was translated from the Greek into Latin incorrectly. Instead of the man getting up and providing bread to his neighbor because of the neighbor’s persistent knocking, it was explained to me that the man provided bread out of shame. The Greek word for “shame”, because it would go against his cultural grain to be inhospitable, and “persistence” is one letter different. I am told that this word was transcribed incorrectly. I trust my source but have not found this anywhere else. Is it true?
