This is a great scripture to meditate on.

Tony g, I talk about the readings every day here. I want to know what you think.

I think of the book of Revelation, tsunamis, the star of bethlehem.
I even think of batman and robin, going about their business, and then Jesus comes.
Everyone will know Him.

I think your right. If anyone tells you that they know a specific time for the return of our Lord Jesus; they are fools. No person knows, not even Jesus, only the Father. But we are given specific signs to watch out for to say to us that the time is near; but how near? It is said in scripture that the generation that is alive when these things come to pass will see salvation. I believe that we are now that living generation.

Man coming in His glory”.

Watchfulness for the Coming of Christ

False prophets, false witness, false gods, wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, famines, pestilences, great signs in the heavens, fearful sights, betrayal, perversion, wickedness, fornication, hypocrisy, covetousness, adultery, murder, thievery, blasphemy. Destruction of the Holy Innocent Children of God through abortion. Persecution of the Christianity and belief of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
All of these are abominations to our Father the Lord God Almighty. “God overthrows the thrones of those who are disobedient to his law.” — St. Avitus of Vienna
The earth has now become the throne of the evil one, satan. The laws of God have been broken from the beginning of the creation of man; now, they are not only broken but we are told that we must accept these evil sinful ways as commonplace in our lives. Today not only are we broken by sin but the structure surrounding the entire world is broken and has now become the throne of evil and corruption. The God of creation and love did not intend for this happen; He will overthrow the throne of satan, the earth, and restore justice upon it.

When he said the words above he was referring to the destruction of Jerusalem, which happened a generation (about forty years) after Jesus’ crucifixion. The destruction of Jerusalem happened just as Jesus predicted it would and was vindication for Jesus against those who had rejected him

The entire Olivet Discourse, in fact (Matthew 24, from whence the above passage comes) is **primarily **about the destruction of Jerusalem and the Jewish Temple in AD 70. It is only **secondarily **about the Second Coming. From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

**585 **On the threshold of his Passion Jesus announced the coming destruction of this splendid building [the Temple], of which there would not remain “one stone upon another”.[Mt 24:1-2] By doing so, he announced a sign of the last days, which were to begin with his own Passover.[Mt 24:3; Lk 13:35.]

When you hear people downplaying or ignoring the proper context of Matthew 24 by trying to interpret it the other way around and concentrating on the Second Coming, they are misunderstanding and mis-applying the text.

Well, that’s your opinion, but I hardly think of the “reign of God” as the destruction
of the temple. Are you saying that Mark 9 and Luke 9 also refer to this?

Well, it’s not just my opinion, but also the opinion of most non-Protestant Dispensationalist Bible scholars. And, yes, that does apply to similar passages found in Mark 9 and Luke 9.

The destruction of the Temple marked the beginning of the reign of God because it marked the end of the old covenant which revolved around the Temple.
