Hi! I’m a new member to the forum. I read the One Year Bible (Catholic version) most days for my daily study. The New Testiment scripture from yesterday and today was very interesting. It was Luke 21: 5-36 discussing the end times. In my personal NAB version Bible it divides the verses by the following topics:
“The Destruction of The Temple Foretold”;
“The Signs of The End Times”;
“The Coming Persecution”;
“The Great Tribulation”;
“The Coming of The Son of Man”;
“The Lesson of The Fig Tree”;
“The Exhortation to be Vigilant”;

Just on the surface level, for me, it kind of put things into perspective for my “worrying” priorities. I find that today’s society (myself included) is so concerned with earthly gain and what will happen today that society forgets we all have a much higher calling. I think Jesus was trying to warn us about complacency in our faith especially toward the end times.

If anyone is interesting in discussing these scriptures further, please respond. Look forward to hearing from you. 🙂
 
I guess the question I really want to pose is as follows:

How do we as Catholic Christians prepare ourselves for these times?

How do we try to help our family, friends, and others also prepare themselves?

Simple. Live with the mind of Jesus Christ.

By living with the mind of Christ, Christians hasten the coming of the Reign of God, “a kingdom of justice, love, and peace.” They do not, for all that, abandon their earthly tasks; faithful to their master, they fulfill them with uprightness, patience, and love.(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2046).

One day Philip Neri was playing a game of pool with a group of seminarians when one of them asked ‘‘What would you do if you knew that Jesus was going to return within the hour?’’ The future saint responded ‘‘Sink this ball in that pocket.’’

The point is that we should not have to prepare for the return of the Lord. We should be living that way all of the time.

We don’t need to horde food or gold. We need to study the Word of God, receive the Eucharist and pray, pray, pray.
