Luke 24: 13-35?

Luke 24:13-35 is the about the appearance of Christ to the 2 disciples on the way to Emmaus. Click Here for passage.

Is there a correlation between those verses and The Mass?
Was that the first Mass AFTER the resurrection?

Why did Christ “disappear” at the breaking of the bread? Does this moment have something to do with the REAL PRESENCE of Christ in the Eucharist?

Hi Mommyof02green,

I’ve thought of it as the first Mass after the resurrection. Here is the commentary on verse 30 from the George Haydock bible:

The ancient Fathers think our Saviour consecrated, on this occasion, and administered the Eucharist to the two disciples. In the Acts of the Apostles, this same term, “breaking of bread”, is explained without difficulty of the Eucharist. S. Luke seems fond of this manner of expression, to signify the sacrament.

There is no commentary on verse 31. Personally I’ve never given thought to why Jesus then disappeared. Perhaps because having them recognize Him in the Eucharist was one of the primary reasons for appearing to them in the first place.
