Define a lukewarm catholic? I started thinking about this last week when I was at a relatives first Holy Communion mass and there were quite a lot at it that were not practising Catholics. I always remember attending things like Confirmations, First Holy Communions, weddings, funerals, Christenings etc… And a lot of people at it weren’t. The lack of respect for Jesus and the mass in general annoys me.

In the divine mercy chaplet Jesus says "Ninth Day
“Today bring to Me the Souls who have become Lukewarm, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls wound My Heart most painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives because of lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out: ‘Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Your will.’ For them, the last hope of salvation is to run to My mercy.”

It never occurred to me how much lukewarm souls offended Jesus, I will keep praying for their conversion.

Praying with you.

’Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity
of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement
for our sins and those of the whole world.'

’For the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the
whole world.'

Yes, you are so right. I just experienced the same thing. I attended a first Communion last week. Everyone in the Church talked loudly before the Mass as if they were at a sporting event. Father asked that everyone refrain from photography during the Mass. There was a professional photographer. People totally ignored him and snapped away.

He gave a beautiful sermon which appealed to all ages and he interacted with the children. The children listened eagerly and answered his questions.

Later the children received their First Holy Communion devoutly, reverently.

After Communion was over, to my horror, people again talked in full
blown conversations with no regard for the Sacrament they received.
No respect for Jesus or each other.
My question is, how do we attract people to our Faith and show them the beauty of it if we treat it so lightly? How do set an example for the children by acting that way? No wonder Jesus hates lukewarmness.

Lukewarmness can also be found in very observant people, who are only formally living the faith but show hostility towards people who are badly taught, or disobedient, or confused.

Praying with you for the conversion of lukewarm souls.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

I stopped looking round me at Mass for the lukewarm Catholics some time ago. I looked a little too close at myself and found one I could concentrate my attention with greater efficacy.
Still working on him after all that time.

For all lukewarm souls, including Catholics who merely ‘attend’ Mass:

O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Sacred Heart of Jesus as a Fountain of Mercy for us, we trust in You!
