I have a granddaughter on the way, and would really like to learn some lullabies or other songs for her. Maybe even some Catholic music of some sort.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sleep my child, peace attend thee all through the night.
YouTube Stelu or Michael Daly All through the Night not Cyndi Lauper.

This what I sing with my daughter:
All the Pretty Little Horses
Sail Away Ladies
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
You Are My Sunshine
When you Wish Upon a Star
Scarlet Ribbons
Smile

I’ve always thought that there should be a lovely setting out there for guitar of “Hush, Little Baby” (“Hush, little baby, don’t say a word, papa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird…”) I believe it was originally an Appalachian lullaby, so guitar would be eminently suitable.

There is a beautiful song by John Denver “for baby, for Bobby” (?) that obviously is for guitar if you can find it. 🙂 (first line: “I’ll walk in the rain by your side.”)

This was one of my favorites:

Toora, loora, loora
Toora, loora, li
Toora, loora, loora
Hush, now, don’t you cry
Ah,
Toora, loora, loora
Toora, loora, li
Toora, loora, loora
It’s an Irish lullaby

Over in Killarney, many years ago
My mother sang this song to me in tones so sweet and low
Just a simple little ditty in her good old Irish way
And I’d give the world if she could sing that song to me this day

My husband picked “Make me a channel of your Peace” and I had “Ava Maria”, “Baby Mine”, & “Little. Star”

We also made a playlist with two albums and a few other lullaby’s. First album is by Celtic Women, “Lullaby’s”:
When You Wish Upon A Star
Stay Awake
Baby Mine
Goodnight My Angel
Over the Rainbow
Suantrai
Walking In The Air
The Blessing ---- (((AMAZING!!! Love this song.)))
Brahms’ Lullaby
Hush Little Baby

Second album is by Nick Lachey, "A Father’s lullaby
All Through the Night
Baby Mine
Another Day Is Done
You Are My Sunshine
All the Pretty Little Horses
When You Wish Upon a Star
Father s Lullaby
Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)
Hush, Little Baby
Once Upon a Time
Sleepy Eyes
Brahms Lullaby

Jewell - Lullaby
Twinkle Little Star (sings several lyrick’s)
Gloria
Angel Standing By

“The Blessing”

In the morning when you rise
I bless the sun, I bless the skies
I bless your lips, I bless your eyes
My blessing goes with you

In the nighttime when you sleep
Oh I bless you while a watch I keep
As you lie in slumber deep
My blessing goes with you

This is my prayer for you
There for you, ever true
Each, every day for you
In everything you do

And when you come to me
And hold me close to you
I bless you
And you bless me, too

When your weary heart is tired
If the world would leave you uninspired
When nothing more of love’s desired
My blessing goes with you

When the storms of life are strong
When you’re wounded, when you don’t belong
When you no longer hear my song
My blessing goes with you

This is my prayer for you
There for you, ever true
Each, every day for you
In everything you do

And when you come to me
And hold me close to you
I bless you
And you bless me, too

I bless you
And you bless me, too

Hush-a-bye. Don’t you cry.
Go to sleepy little baby.
When you wake you’ll have cake,
And all the pretty little horses
Blacks and bays, dapples and grays…
Coach and six a little horses
Hush-a-bye. Don’t you cry.
Go to sleepy little baby.
Oh, mother dear, where’s your lamb?
Left him sleeping in the meadow.
Birds and bees singin in the trees.
Poor little lamb cries, “Mammy”.
So, hush-a-bye, Don’t you cry.
Go to sleepy little baby.

These are good suggestions, folks. Thanks!

I also found some instructional videos for Brahms Lullaby for guitar on YouTube.

I used to let my kids pick what song they wanted at bedtime. Daughter usually wanted “Michael Row The Boat Ashore”; son almost always asked for “Octopus’s Garden.”
