Lunapads?

How do you know when it’s time to change it? Does it “feel” full? And if you are not at home, what do you do with it if you are in a public restroom?

I’m really intrigued by all this natural stuff - I personally hate using tampons, but the smell of pads just totally turns me off so I will use the tampons as much as I can the first few days (I am absolutely with who ever said they hate putting things “there” that don’t belong!!!). Then again, the whole “bucket” idea sort of grosses me out too - I guess I would have to get used to that part. Hmmmm - definitely something to think about.

Try www.natracare.com they make natural organic cotton pads and tampons. Safer, and no smell.

As for when the cup is full, I you get to know by checking periodically. Some people only ckeck it twice a day. It is safe to leave in al night too. I have only gotten close to filling it on the first day of a period. and it creates a seal, so nothing will leak. It just might be a bit messy to take out and empty if it is all the way full. because it is safe to be in for an extended time, i have never had to empty it in a public bathroom. If you have to, you can just wipe it off with toilet paper and put it back in.

Honestly, the Lunapads have much less odor than the plasticky disposables (I imagine this holds true for any breathable cloth pad- the airflow helps keep things drier and doesn’t support odor-causing bacteria). This was a very pleasant surprise for me, as I always hated the odor associated with disposables. I didn’t really believe the testimonials on the website which stated this, but had to rethink my stance after trying them myself.

The only thing I would consider would be the Diva cup. My sis uses the “Instead” because she can have intercourse during her period. The Diva cup doesn’t sound like that would allow for that. I hate any kind of padding between my legs, it just seems diaperish.

Right. Instead is also not reusable.

I was wondering though, would it be ok to use it (the instead,) and have sex (with husband i mean, of course). Since it is not meant to be a contraceptive, and it says so at their website, but maybe they are just saying that to cover themselves. It does seem like a barrier, though, even though the primary reason would be menstrual and not contraceptive. Just curious.

True, you can’t engage in intercourse with the Keeper or Divacup in place, but tampons pose the same problem.

As for tampons, I never could wear them. I don’t even notice the Keeper. On heavy days, I do have to empty it every four or five hours, but then there are days I don’t have to think about it at all.

When travelling, I like to try to find a restroom that is more like a half bath in a home. It is just easier for me to be able to rinse it out than try to clean it out with a damp paper towel.

And where my husband is concerned, he is glad that he will not ever be sent to buy sanitary products in public ever again. 😃 He gets grossed out if I leave my Keeper drying on the bathroom counter and would prefer that I find a better hiding place for the cute little bag that stores it, but at least we don’t have the dog pulling used pads out of the trash and leaving them lying around the house.

That is not the purpose of it, it is to not bleed all over your hubby.👍

What is “the bucket” like? Do they sell them on the product sites? Or does everyone just come up with whatever you find and works for you? I assume it has a lid?

🤷 So many questions! 😃

Well, yea. I wouldn’t want to have sex during my period for that reason. I am completely comfortable with my menstruation, but why invite added messy-ness? But is it is stopping stuff (menstrual fluid) from comming out, can’t it function to stop stuff (semen) from going in?

I think this would be an interesting AAA question actually. The intention is not there in any way to prevent conception, but if the device has that “side effect”, then my guess is that it should not be used during intercourse.

I use a small bathroom trashcan that fists under my sink. A friend of mine uses an old 5 gallon ice cream container and uses the lid from that.
You can order pad buckets (put cloth pad soaking pot into google) these are usually handmade and have a spout to drain the water out each day. My mom’s friend has one, and the spout lets her take the water out and pour it on her garden easier (i swear, it’s the best fertilizer!)
But you can really use whatever you want as a soaking bucket/pot.

On a side note, I found this website that offers a good selection of different pads, and a pad spray. You spray it on the pads and let them sit til wash day, in your bucket or where ever.

Right. Same as the HIV and condoms thing.

I just use a plastic tub with a lid and stash it in the laundry room under the sink. It doesn’t have to be a big container. The woman who recommended these pads to me uses a pink ceramic cookie jar with a lid that she stores behind the toilet in her bathroom.

Update: I bought 2 minipads from a local supplier, to try them, and I LOVE THEM! ^^ I’m going to order the deluxe pack this weekend, when I can borrow my mom’s visa(I’ll pay her back! ^^). They’re so soft, and they don’t stick to you, or rustle when you move, and they don’t smell at all! I couldn’t believe it, I had to sniff the pad itself, and it smelt good! ^^ Thank you, all, for your advice!

Meg over at the NFP board at Delphi uses them and she says semen does get through. You may know her from her website peeonastick.com.

I’ve thought about trying these. I didn’t even realize something like this was available until I started cloth diapering - many of the sites sell both products. I’d probably just wash them with the diapers. I haven’t gotten my flow back since giving birth 16 months ago, but when I do I’m going to get something like this. There are quite a few varities available, some probably cheaper than lunapads. Check out www.diaperpin.com for reviews of some dfferent brands.

Divacups kinda scare me. I can’t even bring myself to do the cervical checks when charting to avoid/achieve pregnancy.

Ladies, your man does not want blood all over his business. This is double effect rule. Secondly, it is not a contraceptive. Its no different then the side effect of smoking, which is decrease sperms!

Please, if you must do it during that time, use that thang!!!

Anyway, I’ve read the box during my morning constitution, It can not even be used as a contraceptive. Secondly, it does shift around I am sure some sperm does get in there. Sperm is microscopic, I am sure you didn’t know that though!

Not all men feel that way. My husband and I have engaged in intercourse during my menstrual cycle, doesn’t seem to bother him
and if it does, he can either wait until it is over, or employ some soap and water afterwards. There is nothing dangerous or disgusting about menstrual fluid.
