Hello,
I am going to confession in a few hours so I could really use some help. I have fallen back into the habit of masturbation over the past few days. Now in addition to this, I made a provocative video, and I am ashamed of it and have deleted everything. I was wondering how I should word this for my confession, does anyone have an idea?

I don’t think your confessor would need more detail than you’ve given here, but it’s a clear enough way of stating what you did. By the way, priests do occasionally ask questions if they feel they need more detail. If yours does, it’s only so that he can give more helpful and appropriate advice and/or penance.

And don’t forget to thank God afterwards, for his goodness in giving us the sacrament of confession!

Trust me you will not shock the priest. Your sins, unfortunately, are common and he’s heard them many times. It’s nerve wracking only because we feel the shame but the priest feels the warmth of God’s love in his role as the instument of reconciliation. And the good news is: We feel that warmth afterwards and what an uplifting feeling that is. God Bless you and be with you always…

1. …state our sins clearly and briefly without rambling;

1. …confess all mortal sins in number and kind;

1. …never be afraid to say something “embarrassing”… just say it;

1. …never worry that the priest thinks we are jerks… he is usually impressed by our courage;

1. …never fear that the priest will not keep our confession secret… he is bound by the Seal;

1. …never confess “tendencies” or “struggles”… just sins;

In confession I try to be as vague while being specific!! I have even tried just listing the commandments that I broke! That did not fly past my confessor! haha
Does the video involve someone else? Are you married?
For the masturbation part why dont you say something like, “I have had lustful thoughts that led to self pleasure”
I don’t see the need to be crude. Euphamisms are ok in the confession, the priest has heard it all. With the video you could say that you and your girlfriend (guessing) participated in voyerism after fornicating (guessing again). The priests I go to are really good at asking questions so you don’t have to unload on them.
