"15.In faith we together hold the conviction that justification is the work of the triune God. The Father sent his Son into the world to save sinners. The foundation and presupposition of justification is the incarnation, death, and resurrection of Christ. Justification thus means that Christ himself is our righteousness, in which we share through the Holy Spirit in accord with the will of the Father. Together we confess: By grace alone, in faith in Christ’s saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping and calling us to good works."

This is standard Catholic teaching. The Church has always held these things to be true.

I think it’s interesting because the catholic church and the lutheran church are working together. 🙂

Agreed, but I’d like to add an important clarification…

They are not working together to hammer out a compromise wherein each side gives in on a few points in order to get along.

They are working together to understand what the points of agreement are and what they may have misunderstood about one another’s teachings 500 years ago.

That’s an important distinction.

Right. This was a big deal 500 years ago. This declaration is an attempt to bridge some of the damage done by some unfortunate councils, anathemas, and wars by defining in unison that there is one gospel and this is what it says…etc.

It’s an interesting well written document.
