Lutheran Service Book Editing

I recently bought a Lutheran Service Book and now I wish to edit it to make it more Catholic. Most of it are hymns, so those won’t be edited, but the prayers and Catechism I wish to edit. I already started to edit the Book of Common Prayer (1979 and Canadian 1962). I could combine the two to make a prayer book with hymnal but I need help with the doctrine.
Also I need help on the Doctrine of Predestination and the Catholic Church’s position on it so that I may edit the Articles of Religion and any references of it in the Lutheran Service Book.

Why not just use a Catholic missal instead? I don’t understand the point of what you are doing.

well at least why i would do it if i ever got the inclination. Firstly curiosity and secondly because I CAN and of course the prayers and hymns may be of attraction for our book editting compatriot with the problem being the heretical teachings interspersed within.

As to the original question I would suggest contacting an orthodox knowledgable priest or someone else in your area well versed in the area of doctrine for help in re-working the books. (although for the anglican ones you could just get a copy of the the Book of Divine Worship which is used by the anglican use parishes in America, and will be used by the ordinariate:shrug Also you could perhaps contact someone well versed in apologetics here on catholic online or elsewhere requesting help in the purification process and re-compilation of the books.

It sounds to me like you would have better luck in the Liturgy and Sacraments forum.
That said, my first thought is you would probably need to reword both the corporate confession in the divine service, as well as Private Confession/ Absolution (Reconciliation).

Which “heretical” teachings are you referring to?

Yes, that would interest me as well. I mean, I knew that the CC believes that Lutherans “heretical” teachings, but what in particular can be found in sayed Service Book, that’d interest me.

Especially, since the LCMS is (together with WELS), more “Catholic” than Protestant.

I do have to admit the editor on me does look at worship books and edit them in my mind. I think I could make any church service about half the length it is now and not miss a thing

presumably the sacramental theory as transcribed in the books could be incorrect to a catholic view, predestination may be off (however i don;t know enough about lutheran theory to be certain) and quite possibly scripture, tradition and references to authority and magisterium could be incorrect.

Unfortunately I do not know enough about lutheran books to say with certainty anything that may or may not be heretical within them, plus im not really acquainted with lutheranism and its more detailed philosophy and doctrinal theory so any of the less obvious and more subtle disagreements i may be unable to help with (in editting that is)

Just a note though, just because theres an outward appearance of similarity between two groups doesn;t mean the underlying theology is the same or even comparable in cases. Im aware of groups within the Anglican Church here in australia who’s liturgy looks very catholic… except for the fact that theres a woman where the priest should be.

The biggest question is Why? What’s the point?
