From my morning paper:

“Installing an openly gay minister cost the Central City Lutheran Mission in San Bernardino its designation as a Lutheran church. But come Sunday such an appointment may no longer be taboo. At its biennial meeting in Orlando, the 5 million-member church will vote on a resolution to allow into the priesthood those ‘in life-long, committed and faithful same-sex relationships.’”

The article goes on to say that the resolution has to be passed by a two-thirds vote, then needs the permission of its bishop, the synod council, and the Conference of Bishops before taking effect.

It doesn’t sound very likely to occur, but I’m surprised the issue is coming up at all.

They believe in solo scripture, yet they are having a council of people to discuss a theological issue.
Hypocrites.

I’ve said this before, but I’m really starting to believe that gay marriage will be the issue that brings thousands of lost souls home to Rome. Maybe it’s an indirect gift from the guy upstairs.

I have to agree with Jabronie here…already many Episcopals and even some entire congragations have after their gay bishop incident. I have to pray that this is his purpose not the total destruction of morals in our society.

Before I discovered the truth, I was considering Lutheranism (I liked Liturgy but hated all that nasty Catholic stuff lol). I was trying to figure out which Lutheran group to join, and in the process I was reading all of their different beliefs. I became very concerned about the statements about homosexuality and whatnot from the ELCA. They have been tactfully dodging the issue for almost a decade now, but judging from what they have said I think they will be allowing gay marriage and clergy within the next few years.

In fact, that IS why I came to the Church. I realized I had to either become Catholic or accept all sorts of wild stuff. That is what led me to consider reading the stuff to see what Catholics said in their defense. Glad I did! 🙂

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps the reformation may have been for the overall good of the Church…eventually. I certainly hope so…

When the stories of sexual abuse by Roman Catholic Priests began to be reported, it struck at my heart and prayed that it not be so or, if true, greatly over-stated. I prayed for the Roman Catholic Church. I took no delight in the shame, the betrayal, the deep hurt of so many Christians.

The ELCA is in a time of great testing and trial. There are persons who are hurting, frustrated, angry, as well as those who are hopeful that they will pass through the storm.

Whatever may come of the Church-wide Assembly, they are in need of prayer, support, and encouragement to clearly hear the voice of the One who calls, “Follow me.”

It’s funny, when I read in the paper about the Lutheran conference and what they are grappling with, I thought this is one time when their policy of Sola Scriptura really should show them a path!

The problem is many churches are reacting to political pressure, this is one thing I learned from JP II that the Church is above political, economic, and military pressure and does not negotiate on those levels.

I would also say, while I hope that radical beliefs in Protestant churches might bring people back to Rome, I don’t expect it. There are many references in the Bible to the large number of non-believers untilt he very end of time, so we shouldn’t be surprised by continual defeat and persecution of those that are part of the one true Church and love Jesus. That’s why this is the world and not heaven. 🙂
