My dad works hours at his job and he puts some of his hours under my name so he won’t get taxed as much, is this a grave matter?

I also work with him once in a while so I’m technically an employee.

He’s cheating the government, which is theft.
I can’t say how grave a sin it is. I’m not qualified to judge such things.

If you’re an adult you have a moral responsibility not to cooperate in sin.

All works comes from God therefore your dad should appreciate it and carry out his duty with Christ, in Christ, through Christ and to Christ. Also, you already knew in your heart that it could be a grave matter otherwise you won’t ask this question. I suggest you go to Sunday or daily mass to be cleansed. If you think it is a grave sin, just go to the confessional.

I would say yes, it’s a grave sin.

Moreover, if he reports more hours under your name than you actually work, aren’t you then charged more taxes?

Whether or not theft is grave depends on how much is stolen, the motivation behind the theft, and whether or not the stolen item has sentimental value.

The only way I’d go along with this is if you get all the money for his extra hours that he puts over to you. One could then argue that his efforts were a gift to you.

Since he probably expects you to pay him back, I would stop this arrangement.

Definitely sounds risky from a legal standpoint.
It is stealing, but I don’t know if it’s mortal or venial
