I had stressed and want take off day, but im lying to my supervisor that i have to emergency leave but i actually dont have to emergency leave. I only want to release my stress by do others job like cleaning home and to do hobby, to avoid stressful work environment and get peaceful mind and get out from work routine. Is it mortal sin to lying for get out from stressful life?

Lying can be either venial or mortal sin. So never lie. The Bible is clear that lying is a sin and displeasing to God.

Just tell your employer the truth. You’re taking a much needed Personal Day (aka a Mental Health Day). You don’t have to give the reason.

That would be best, but it depends on the employer, and what their rules are about time off. But OP, you shouldn’t lie to your supervisor. Can you just say that you need to take a day off?

It is a sin to lie to your boss.

Better to say “I have personal matters to attend to. I will not be at work on Thursday.”

The company may not allow people to take personal days on such short notice. It really messes up the schedule if the boss now has to scramble to find someone to cover.

OP, you shouldn’t lie. It’s fine to take a day off to relax, but you need to be honest about it and give your boss more notice.

It isn’t really the duty of anybody on this forum to decide whether or not something is a mortal sin. Only a priest can help you sort through this. I sometimes have a habit of telling people, “This is a mortal sin, or this isn’t.” The point is that you need a priest to answer.

As someone before mentioned on a different topic on this forum, we really need not decide whether something is mortal or venial, because we should plan on confessing it anyways. God will forgive it if you offer it up in honesty regardless of whether or not you think it is mortal or venial.

I totally understand the need to know this. Likely, you’re motivated by some fear that compels you to need to ask and find out what people think. Go to confession and honestly confess if you are sorry.

If you are stressed and take a day off, what does that change for the next day? What about instead of lying, figure out how to be less stressed, whether its a walk in the woods in the morning, a bubble bath at night, delegating tasks to others, not taking on another thing or writing out all your worries? Or taking a side job if its money? And then take a vacation day with enough advanced notice - but don’t lie about it being an emergency.

Part of having a good employer employee relationship and keeping your reputation in tact is honor and honesty. Sometimes, even though it is an uncomfortable conversation, you need to just put on adult pants and say " I need to go home for personal reasons." IF you can’t say that or your employer won’t accept it, you can look for a new job.

If you are honestly stressed out and need a day or two off work, the best option is to see your doctor. As well as writing a medical certificate to cover your absence (and any employer worth their salt will give you time off if medically recommended regardless of reason), they may be able to suggest techniques to minimise your stress in future, or refer you on to people who can.

Win-win, no lying required.

Unrecognised and untreated psychological issues cause a lot of loss to businesses. Any sensible employer knows this, and is willing to allow employees time off if required to deal with such issues.

not every employer allows an unscheduled personal day. If you did that where I work it would be an unscheduled absence and after so many, you would be subject to discipline. to make it scheduled you have to give a reason, just not a formal diagnosis/prognosis.

the OP needs to review his company’s policy and follow its rules.

The OP needs to be honest with his employer. Right now, he’s lying about there being an emergency requiring his being off work.

Taking a Personal Day now and then is allowed by employers. But if the OP lies and keeps lying about “emergencies” every time he needs a day off, the day will come when there truly is an emergency, perhaps a death in the family, and he will be denied that time off and could risk losing his job.

I don’t know if this is the OP’s first job or not. But employers want people they can rely on. Making a habit of taking days off and lying about the reason will make it harder to find jobs in the future. And it inconveniences those who have to pick up the slack while the person is off.

Cleaning house? That’s what weekends and vacations are for. Catching up on those things that didn’t get done during the week because the person had to work.

A true home emergency is a pipe suddenly bursting and needing to be there because the plumber only works weekdays. The house catching fire and time off needed to find another place to stay if you don’t have family in the area.

Just wanting to catch up on house cleaning isn’t an emergency. It’s just something the OP wants to do.

If you have to ask if this is mortal sin then it’s very likely it isn’t. Full knowledge is required to incur mortal sin.

Lying is certainly a sin though and displeasing to God. And if your employer finds out- to them too.
