MacArthur on Bible Interpretation

From this morning’s episode of Grace to You radio, John MacArthur ended his show with the following comment:*How important is it then, to understand the Bible in its original context, original time, original place, and the original people to whom it was written. That’s why I want to encourage you, get a copy of the MacArthur Study Bible. I explain the meaning of the Bible from the perspective of the original author and the original audience.*Thoughts? :o

He’s made himself his own pope! 😛 I think it’s rather pretentious and arrogant when you name a study bible after yourself full of all your musings on why you have the correct interpretation. Typical sectarian pride. 🤷

I agree with his basic premise, but he does not always do it. JM helped my convert to Catholicism by his deviation from his own rules when trying to read into I Timothy what he wanted in it. Catholics need to avoid his study Bible, or at least understand what he says in theory he does not always practice.
 
I’m glad you point these things out, (name removed by moderator)! MacArthur is hardcore anti-Catholic. And really he has alienated himself to a high degree from his fellow evangelicals. Nobody is Calvinist enough for John MacArthur and some of his slants on things have angered other evangelists. He is one of the more vehemently outspoken anti-Catholics I have seen. Sad.

If he had stated that he “attempts to explain the meaning of the bible from the perspective of the original authors, and the original audience.” I could understand that. But this is just about as arrogant as a man can get. Im sure Mac Arthur is a nice man in person. But i really do have to question where he coming from here. I used to read his books as a protestant. And listen to him on the radio. I for one, am dissapointed in him. Peace 🙂
