Made some mistakes during my last Confession and I was wondering if I need to reconfess the sins

During my last Confession, I had a two sins that I confessed as “I did this for x amount of times during the last 5 years”.

A few hours after Confession, I realised, that the time frame would have actually been 6/7 years instead of 5. It was an honest mistake, and I’m wondering if I need to reconfess those sins.

I was afraid that due to only saying 5 years , I failed to include the times I’ve committed the sins that were before the past 5 years.

Note :

By the way, the reason I added the time frame was to convey that I wasn’t struggling severely with it. If I had excluded the time frame, it would have seemed like a very severe addiction. It was mostly so that the priest would be able to give appropriate advice based on the severity of how much I struggled with the sin.

I posted this elsewhere, and most said it was alright, but I kind of wanted some more opinions just to make sure. Thanks.

You are obligated to confess each serious sin once. If you honestly forgot, the sin is already forgiven. The confession of it at your next confession is just a formality.

Do you think I should confess the corrected version of it (“I did it x times for the past 6/7 years”) during my next Confession?

this did not seem intentional. your sins were absolved. Be at peace, and rejoice in the Lord always!

I think you’re fine. You weren’t trying to be deceptive, you made an honest mistake. Do you think God would refuse to forgive you when you sincerely asked for forgiveness? I highly doubt it.

No. Once you’ve confessed a particular species of sin, even if you got the timeframe wrong, those sins are already directly remitted by the keys and do not count as “forgotten” sins, and they do not need to be mentioned again.

I asked this question years ago of my own confessor and this is exactly what he told me.

I asked a priest friend (not my confessor, I’ve actually only “met” him online) a question about a similar situation one time, where I confessed certain sins but realized later that I got the time frame wrong. He told me essentially the same thing: don’t worry about it.

No, you confessed accurately enough the first time. Part of confession is learning to trust God’s mercy!

You don’t have to, just confess that in your next confession. However, if you made that “mistake”
on purpose, you must confess that immediately.

We are to confess sins in kind and number. To the best of our ability. If you did that you have followed the Avenue the church has outlined.
