This is occuring now with the Vatican Indulgences surrounding Covid19

I’m presuming the Bishop wanted to remove all concern that one would have to “make up” the Holy Communions later on, since the Vatican decree, which he references in his decree so it must have already come out, provides for everything else he said, including not having to go to Confession right now. One Confession covers many plenary indulgences, so when one goes again after this is over (or when one can go since it’s still available some places), it will cover every plenary you get during this time. But the Vatican Decree does not indicate that one is totally excused from the “one Communion per indulgence” requirement, only that one can delay receiving the Communions during this time when Communion is not available.

It would be nice if other dioceses released some similar clarification, but to my knowledge Madison is the only one in the US so far. Madison Diocese seems to be very traditional so I reckon their bishop may be more knowledgeable about/ cognizant of indulgence practice than some other dioceses I won’t name.

I welcome this decree — it is exactly what I have been talking about in other posts — but I do not live in his diocese, so I can’t avail myself of it.

When I saw the name “Hying”, I thought at first he was a Chinese bishop. Visually, he is not obviously Asian, though characteristically Asian features aren’t readily apparent after one or two generations or intermarriage — Keanu Reeves, Dean Cain, and Meg and Jennifer Tilly, just to name a few. Or maybe someone in the family tree was adopted, as was Julian Assange (anglicized form of Ah Sang). It’s neither here nor there, just a matter of human interest. A little diversion of trivia isn’t a bad thing in these troubled times.

He was assigned there before, but is actually from southern Wisconsin…Madison diocese, I believe.

He has some really smart people working for him so I’m not surprised he issued such a helpful and well-crafted decree.
