Is playing with a magic 8 Ball equivalent to reading horascopes?
 
if you really believe in it

if its just for fun and no seriousness at all, then i don’t see no harm

the most important part that makes a sin a sin is the intention

IMHO
It’s nothing more than a toy.
If someone is using it to substitute God’s plan for us…it would be sinful in nature.

But flipping a coin can sinful, as well. It goes to ones intention of use

Yes, it is, it’s because the answers are random and vague. You can cross reference a wide range of horoscopes, they all will say different things. Not very unified, and that in itself should tell you volumes. So, even if you believe in it, it’s still worthless, well, outside of guessing if someone else had that same 8 ball and had the same answer for their motives of action.

I remember as a kid, laughing about it, we used to use it to roll down the floor, got more action that way.
 
Doubtless there are superstitious souls who might well consider it a real form of divination and live by the answers they get.

Most intelligent people over 10 consider it no more than a silly party game. It’s certainly no fun when you play with it by yourself.
 
Other posters have taken the words right out of my mouth. It’s only bad if you REALLY believe in it to give your clairvoyance to the future.

I used to play with mine all the time when I was kid and ask it stupid stuff like “will I eat a ham sandwich for lunch” and when it says “no” I’d go make one and say “what say you now, black ball?!?!”

Yeah…I was a weird kid…
 
I believe it is equivilent to divination the same as a Ouija board. Intent does not really matter you are give demons the right to interact with you. Kinda like grabbing a cobra by the tail.

Ouch! We can have fun in other ways that don’t endanger us spiritually.
 
Gee, Jericho. Sounds like you might find something as innocent as the whole flower petal-plucking “she loves me, she loves me not” thing a demonic gateway as well.

I don’t believe this is the same thing as playing with the ouija board. The 8 ball is just something you mess around with & shake just as a roll of the dice like someone said earlier. As far as the ouija board, that is something a lil more serious. Maybe some times people mess around with the ouija board with no intent on believing it can do what some people say it can, but it’s much more serious.
 
The 8-Ball has 20 phrases; ten are “yes”-type answers, five are “maybe’s,” and the other 5 are some sort of “no.” It’s a simple matter of probability as to which answer will come up, so, like others have said, it’s about like throwing dice or flipping a coin. Now, if a person takes the whole thing too seriously, that could be sinful…but no more sinful than the dice or the coin-flip used with the same attitude.

Or should I say, “Reply hazy, try again?” 😉

When I was a kid, we asked the 8-Ball the stupidest things, usually stuff like “Does Johnny have a crush on Mary” or “Am I going to get a new bike for my birthday?” I see no harm in such childish fun. But it’s all about the intent for which it is used.
 
Ask the 8 ball if it is safe. If it says yes, it is obviously lying and demonic. If it says no, it is obviously demonic and hoping that you trust it. If it says maybe, it is obviously hoping you will decide it is innocent. 😛

Unlike the ouji board, this works by a simple means. There is basically a random chance of any one answer.

Question to you:

More than once I’ve used a coin to decide what I want to do. For example, going to go eat out and I’m not sure which place I want to go, so I took out a coin and said ‘heads, chinese, tails, mexican’ or something similar. Me and my girlfriend sometimes have trouble deciding something so we just rely on the coin as a fair judge.

Is this a sin? 🤷
