probably has already been asked, but how does the greek that the latin word "magnificat"comes from translate exactly… to magnifiy? The reason I ask is that I can’t type in the greek word into google, no upside down “y”
I know apologetically (sp?) it would point to Mary’s sinlessness, anything with a stain on it wouldn’t magnifiy but distort. so any help out there?

This is not directed at you personally Cope, but I’ve often wondered: Why do people feel compelled (in both scholarly and non-scholarly forums) to render words in Greek letters when it is more helpful to more people to render it in English characters so non-Greek readers can figure them out?

I’m sorry! I was not understanding what the question was, thank you for clarifying it, I did exactly the opposite of what he wanted.

I work with the Greek on a daily basis and I sometimes don’t realize that I need to turn it off sometimes. To transliterate it, it is megalunei.

what I am asking, because I couldn’t search for the translation of the greek word myself, is…what does the greek word translate today in english? In the latin it translates to “magnify”, but in later bible versions they use “proclaims” which I think is weaker then “magnifies”; so what would be a more proper translation of the greek into english. ( I know the latin translates into magniflies)
