Mahoney to join orthodox speaker lineup

Thanks for posting this prayerrider.

Archbishop Gomez had Cardinal Mahoney restricted in his diocese.

I wonder if Gomez changed his mind (and if so why)?

Or if this restriction is merely being ignored.

This does not instill a lot of confidence with the upcoming Feb. Vatican conf. regarding how the bishops are going to deal with bishop homosexual abuse (and bishop heterosexual abuse), and bishops turning a blind eye to their priests doing the same thing.

Pope Francis called this ignoring of this behavior “caca” if I recall correctly.

God bless.

I don’t know how much control Abp. Gomez has over the speaker lineup. It’s held in OC. The usual assortment of dissidents, and a few orthodox Catholics.

Good point. I don’t know either.

I wish he would weigh in on it (“he has my approbation” or “he has decided to disobey my restrictions” or something with transparency).

At least they didn’t put him in the “Youth Day” speaker lineup.

I was responding to Cathoholic’s question about whether the cardinal was under restrictions. And to answer your question, though the Religious Education Congress is held in Anaheim it is run by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Thank you SuscipeMeDomine.

Having read the abuse files myself, the article is misleading. The files show an initial slow reaction, but not a blanket cover up like Philadelphia or Boston.

Also, LA Congress always has a mix of speakers. As Bishop Barron calls it, “Here comes everybody.”

Haven’t heard that quote before, but sums it up pretty well. Bring on the Responsorial Psalm Fly Girls!

I could very easily see him giving advice on what not to do in these circumstances. I understand that Richard Nixon gave Ronald Reagan advice on what to do and what not to do when the Iran contragate scandal broke out.

Wow. It looks like Cardinal Mahony, while not perfect, was not nearly as negligent as some critics have tried to paint him. There is some disturbing stuff in that report about the inaction in Rome to Bishops trying to remove offenders from the Priesthood.

Card. Mahony to Speak At the Three Days of Darkness

Time is flying and, in March, the three days of darkness will be renewed in Los Angeles, the infamous – and all these terms are debatable – Religious Education Conference.
You might check this commentary by John Zmirak.
Let’s move on to the Adult theme. No, no that’s not what I meant. Get your mind out of the gutter. Still, the theme is a doozy: “Thirsting for Justice” | “Sed de Justicia” | “Khát Khao Công Lý.”

There we go. Not only does the conference promise that its real theme will be politics . It does so in three languages, in a nod to multiculturalism. Not much real use, of course, since most of the site is in English, and none of it is in Vietnamese. But I give LA-REC some points for virtue-signaling. Not a full 10 out of 10, since the site lacks any phrases at all in Mayan or Aztec languages. Nor is there a single session in Turkish or Arabic. …

How much did the LA Archdiocese wind up paying out in legal fees and lawsuits? I know the big settlement, during Cdl. Mahoney’s tenure, was $660,000,000.
