In his commentary on this verse al-Baydawi said (p. 135),
“A group of Jews cursed Christ and his mother. He invoked evil on them and, may He be exalted, turned them into monkeys and swine. The Jews gathered together to kill him, but God, may He be exalted, informed him (Jesus) that He was going to lift him up to heaven. Thus, (Jesus) said to his companions, `Who would like to have my likeness cast on him and be killed and crucified, then enter the paradise?’ One of them volunteered (to do so) and God cast on him Christ’s likeness. He was then arrested, crucified and killed. It is also said that (the crucified one) was a traitor who went with the mob to guide them to Christ (he meant Judas), thus God cast on him the likeness of Jesus and he was arrested, crucified and killed.”
**Quran does not support substitution theory. Badawi is wrong. It was Jesus alright on the cross. Quran says that Jesus was not killed on the cross. It appeared as if he was dead. But he was alive and appeared to be dead. This substitution theory does not suit the Muslims or the Christians or the Jews. So why it is being discussed or supported? There is no truth in what is presented in the name of Badawi. Please forget it. It is not in the Quran or hadith.
In your posts (#18 and #19) also you have misunderstood things. Quranic knowledge is high level. The mother of Mary belonged to the chjldren of Imran who was probably the father of Moses a.s. So the Quran refers to the mother of Mary as “ A lady from the family of Imran”. That is all. Nothing wrong. Whereas the bible does not speak anything about the birth of Mary, the Quran discusses it too. That a woman of the family of Imran vowed to the God that whatever was in her womb she would leave it to the service of God. She was hoping that she would bear a son and he would serve God.
But it so happened that she bore a female (Mary)…. Please read from Quran below:**
**[3:33] Allah chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of Imran above all peoples of the time.
[3:34] They were descendants of one another and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
[3:35] Remember when a woman of Imran said, ‘My Lord, I have vowed to Thee what is in my womb to be dedicated to Thy service. So do Thou accept it of me; verily Thou alone art All-Hearing, All-Knowing.’
[3:36] But when she was delivered of it, she said, ‘My Lord, I am delivered of a female,’ - and Allah knew best of what she was delivered and the male she desired to have was not like the female she was delivered of - 'and I have named her Mary, and I commit her and her offspring to Thy protection from Satan, the rejected.
[3:37] So her Lord accepted her with gracious acceptance and caused her to grow an excellent growth and made Zachariah her guardian. Whenever Zachariah visited her in the chamber, he found with her provisions. He said, ‘O Mary whence hast thou this?’ She replied, ‘It is from Allah.’ Surely, Allah gives to whomsoever He pleases without measure. **
** I hope you understand now that Quran is discussing the various great families starting from Adam, then Noah and then Abraham and then Imran. This fellow Imran is the father of Moses a.s. That is the head of a great people.
I will try to get back on this subject soon.**
