But enough about my team. Where do y’all think Bryce Harper will land?

Just saw the thread. At this time, all I can say is

“GO DODGERS!!!”

This reminds me: I got Moneyball for free when I bought my TV. I need to finally watch that.

Beyond that, maybe I’ll root for the Giants this year. At the risk of sounding like a traitor, especially given the support for the Tigers in this thread, I’ve just become a bit detached from Detroit teams from not living in Michigan for almost ten years. The same happened with me and the Magic when I left Orlando. I sort of had that feeling this year with football, though at least the Lions give me something to joke about.

So, uh…go Giants…or Oakland…I don’t know!

Ugh. I love sports and I loved the yanks. But after the Cubs won I swore the league was corrupt and swore off all baseball. The only thing that could change my mind are the Mets. I’m a former Yankees fan and the Mets are so boring as is baseball. But one man could bring me back. One savior. It’s tebow time!

Ha - I have you beat. I left Michigan more than thirty years ago, to attend college, and I’ve lived in West Virginia almost half my life now. But I was born and raised in Detroit. You can take me out of the Motor City, but you can’t take the Motor City out of me. 😁

I like the Mets but I don’t focus much on it until after spring training is over. Also everything that can go wrong with the Mets has lately so I’m not so much a glutton for punishment that I think this new GM and Robinson Cano signing with the team are going to work out. As Han Solo and every other member of the cast of Star Wars has said, ‘I gotta bad feeling about this.’

I never actually lived in in Detroit. I was born and raised in Orlando, but I spent my adolescence in Michigan. Over time my sports loyalties changed from Florida teams to Detroit/Chicago teams, often along the lines of who I saw live.

The thing is, I’ve been somewhat of a nomad since leaving Michigan, so I’ve never really gotten a chance to get connected to a local team. The closest is Vegas in hockey, but Chicago still has the core that I fell in love with, though some of have left or retired.

Dodgers won 12-5 with a record 8 HRs on Opening day. World Series here they come!

I’ve got tickets to a few A’s games this year. I’m looking forward to watching games live again. I think the last game I saw live was a minor league game almost ten years ago. One the games is also against the Twins, which is the team I always went to see the Tigers play when I lived in Michigan, more out of coincidence than intent. Hopefully I get to watch the Twins get beat up again. (The Tigers destroyed them in all the games I got to see.)

Not baseball: But last season, the Chicago Blackhawks opened the season with two 10-point games. I think the Penguins only scored once, but I forget how many goals the Blue Jackets scored, just nowhere near 10. Unfortunately, Chicago didn’t make the playoffs.

The moral of this story: Double digits in the first game of a sport where they’re uncommon is a sign that you won’t make the playoffs.

I know one games doesn’t indicate how the season will go. But then again , the have made the playoffs the last six seasons, and made it to the World Series the last two. So a strong victory in the first game of the season is a sign only of a strong victory in the first game of the season. Baseball season is a marathon not a sprint.
