If one talks to himself and his parent tells him to but he continues to. Is it considered as a mortal sin?

If someone talks to theirself and the parents tells them not to but they continue is it a grave matter ,a mortal sin.

I’d say no, especially if talking to yourself is a nervous tick or reflex of some sort.
Just try your best, I’d say. Be at peace.

But are we supposed to obey and listen to every little thing that comes out of our parents mouths?

After all, talking to yourself is far from being a bad habit:

…

my mistake, thought you were making a statement rather than re-asking the question!!

But if still love an answer to the question:
  • are we supposed to obey and listen to every single little thing that comes out of our parents mouth??

According to the 10 commandments we are supposed too… however there have been numerous times when I have not listened to my parents ( my mother usually) and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Quote from the Catechism:

2217 As long as a child lives at home with his parents, the child should obey his parents in all that they ask of him when it is for his good or that of the family. "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord."22 Children should also obey the reasonable directions of their teachers and all to whom their parents have entrusted them. But if a child is convinced in conscience that it would be morally wrong to obey a particular order, he must not do so.

As they grow up, children should continue to respect their parents. They should anticipate their wishes, willingly seek their advice, and accept their just admonitions. Obedience toward parents ceases with the emancipation of the children; not so respect, which is always owed to them. This respect has its roots in the fear of God, one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I often find myself talking to myself… normally it goes like this

Oh no how does she make so much mess in the bathroom?

Argh I’m pretty sure I cleaned the bathroom this morning

I can’t believe someone’s just chucked the nicely folded washing on the ground

How the heck can the kids miss the toilet/ washing basket/ rubbish bin

The 10 Commandments say to honor our mother & father, not that we must obey every single thing they tell us to do.

OP, if you are a minor, you should listen to your parents.
Why are they telling you not to talk to yourself? It seems a little overbearing, but we are only hearing your side of the story.

The catechism actually says to obey them when it is for our good or the good of the family

That doesn’t mean that they must be obeyed in every little thing.

Talking to yourself is not usually something that is harmful and is not really hurting anyone. There is probably much more information that is not being shared. With just what has been shared, I fail to see how there is any sin at all.

You really need to get guidance from one regular priest confessor and stop posting these kinds of questions online. It’s not healthy for you.
