Hey all,
My mother and brother are devout protestants. My dad was raised Catholic but never really practiced as an adult.
My brother was having a discussion with my father over the weekend, and he revealed that he’s an agnostic. I had always suspected this, but it upset my mother to hear him come right out and say it. It seems to me that he doesn’t reject the concept of God as creator, but disagrees with religion (and probably the idea that a moral authority above him, including god, could tell him he’s wrong).
I want to get him a green scapular. I’m afraid he’ll find it hidden under the bed, on a room, etc and not know what it is and throw it out.
I’m a professional artist and thought it might be a good idea to make my own. It’ll have to hang on the wall as a small painting. He won’t throw it out if I paint it and it’ll probably even be openly displayed… though it’d make kind of a weird painting being “framed” in the cloth…
Is there any sort of requirement for the size or material of the sacramental? Can I make two small paintings and then put it in the green… cloth… somehow framing it… and then have it blessed as a green scapular? It’ll also likely be larger than most green scapulars. Or does it have to be made totally out of the cloth and can’t be painted?
