Making a Christmas window for the neighborhood

This is last year’s project, done with layers of blue tissue paper and some blocking paper, which can be just newspaper. It’s a Christmas card to the neighborhood…

These photos are taken from inside the room (bedroom) during the day. Once it’s dark, which is darn early now, we leave the light on in the room so the scene is illuminated for the neighbors. It’s lovely to have this over the holidays…

It’s a 2 window scene. The one window. I made one lamb out of just white paper so it looks different from the others, foreshadowing the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world…

The other window. I hope it looks like a town in the distance, under that star…

Blue tissue paper lends itself well to illustrate distant hills. I gently ironed the folds out and taped them together to fill that size of window. It was fun!

If anyone has other ideas I would love to hear them. I did do the 3 magi with their camels traveling the hills, looking at the star.

How neat! I am not really crafty but often wish I was. :o I think it looks beautiful!

I have a bay window in our living room and I hang four wreaths on it (one for each “section.”) They are “color coded” like an Advent wreath - so three have purple ribbons and one has pink. I light an electric candle under each one as we go through Advent. The idea is that they will be replaced on Christmas Eve with very festive red and gold wreaths, but that part hasn’t happened yet.😛
 
What a beautiful idea! You did a terrific job last year. Would you consider doing a nativity scene?
 
I love it! Maybe this year you can start with the village at the beginning of Advent. Then you can add Joseph and Mary on the donkey and move it closer as you get closer to Christmas. Then you can add the manger and star on Christmas and the Magi on Epiphany. I have a neighbor that does this sort of thing with his nativity set in his yard. It’s always fun to check out what he’s moved on my way to work.
 
What a beautiful idea! Like stained glass windows or a giant living Christmas card.

This is so very lovely and I’m definitely going to try it. I have a perfect spare bedroom facing the cul de sac (now that 2 of my kids have left home). I can leave the windows shut all day so as not to damage the tissue paper. It’s so hot here in tropical Queensland in summer that we normally have to open windows wide all day and night during these summer months.
