Making a church into a Mission?

Hi, my priest works at two churches.One church is not doing well he, wants the bishop to turn the other church over to my church and the building would become a mission.What is meant by this? What are missions?

Usually a parish is territorial. If there are not enough parishoners to support a parish church, then they may meet at another place, in which case they may be organized as a mission, a personal parish for the care of souls of a specific group who do not have their own place of worship but use those of a territorial parish.
