Would I be allowed to make fun of my friends as a joke and not in a serious way and with no intention to offend? Is this a sin, If so venial or mortal? Aditionally, what about making fun of yourself. I was looking back at some really old WhatsApp messages and I said some really dumb things, could I perhaps post that for a laugh?

As I understand, something done as a joke probably wouldn’t be sinful as long as the action being done jokingly is not sinful in itself (e.g. blasphemy), and will not cause scandal.

I can’t imagine pointing out something silly you said in the past at your own expense is any of that. Same with light humour that the people hearing know is in jest and wouldn’t take offence to.

Of course, jokes or teasing can be hurtful. But if the type of relationship you enjoy with your friends includes teasing and jokes - and you have no intent to inflict mental anguish on others then you are fine. However, it would be wise to know when you have gone too far (or if the intended party is not in the mood to receive such teasing). And it would be wise to apologize if the party takes offense even if you did not intend it.

If you do not intend harm, then there is no sin.

Making fun of people is quite uncharitable. Best to bust right out f the culture of making fun of yourself and others

Not a sin I would say but the line between joking and hurtful can be thin so make sure that your friends are the type of people who would be OK with that type of joking.

I see that April Fools Day is coming up. If you and your friends have an understanding that jokes and pranks are okay, then have at it. Who am I to judge?

A few years ago, on the first day of April, my son put a rubber band around the handle of the kitchen sink sprayer. When I turned on the water, I got an unexpected showering. I was about to yell and take my revenge, but then I realized what day it was. I calmly told him that it was a good prank, and that it would be the one and only time he would ever get away with it. I also told him that he had earned bragging rights, that he could tell his friends that he pulled this prank and lived to tell about it.

Are you kidding me ? Be careful with joking !

18-19 Someone who tricks someone else
and then claims that he was only joking
is like a crazy person - playing with a deadly weapon.

20 Without wood, a fire goes out; without gossip, quarreling stops.
21 Charcoal keeps the embers glowing, wood keeps the fire burning,
and troublemakers keep arguments alive.
22 Gossip is so tasty! How we love to swallow it!

This is Proverbs 😇 I did go for the ‘Good News’ Translation - chapter 26 -

Never make fun of others even as a joke. You wouldn’t want it happening to you.
