My wife and I recently moved to a new city and joined a new parish. It had been their practice to begin receiving communion fron the last pew to the first pew. We sat in the third pew and did not understand why but, waited our turn. Apparently when the parish was started it was believed that “first shall be last and the last shall be first.”
New pastor (30 years old) changed this practice back to starting from the front of church, well he was threatened by the “liturgical police” that he was wrong and was going to be reported to the bishop and be removed from the parish!!
Today he remains and is doing a fantastic job and we lost a couple of folks (moved to a “better” parish).

People are funny, even in religious practice.

Thanks for the encouraging words! I think what I have learned is that in the future, it would probably be better for me to go to Adoration alone. I enjoy the fellowship with my friends, but if my every move is being observed and commented upon that takes away from the moment that I want to spend with Jesus. I wasn’t able to completely focus on Him and give him my attention as a result. That time is precious and I don’t want to waste it potentially worrying about pleasing other people.
I just wanted to correct this statement because I wasn’t able to delete it. I LOVE my friend who corrected me and it was wrong of me to suggest that he was being judgmental or rude. He really was just trying to help and cares about me a lot and I care about him a lot. He has been really supportive of my becoming Catholic and is an awesome person! In this paragraph, I feel like I was giving the wrong impression. He is not observing my every move. That is just how I feel that other people are doing sometimes and it’s a problem I need to work on because I’m overly self-conscious. 😛 I would still like to go to Adoration with my friend and share in fellowship. Just wanted to clarify! Ugh. The dangers of posting things online without thinking…
