After confessing certain sins I’ve gotten absolution, but to my surprise, the priest didn’t tell me to make restittution for my sins. To give a hypothetical example let’s say I told him I’d robbed Ft. Knox and he said to say three “Our Fathers.”

Do I do just what he says and let it go at that and get on with my life or do I need to start paying back Ft. Knox or give the poor the equivalent of all the gold bullion I stole?

I know you have to do the three Our Fathers.

I know you do have to return it if you still have the gold lying around the house, stuffed in a closet or basement, gathering dust. I also know you do not have to let them know you took it unless the priest makes that part of your penance.

Gee, I’m not sure about the rest. I would assume you’d want to make restitution as best as possible, with or without the priest telling you that you had to do it.
