Making Sacrifices- what does this mean

I am starting RCIA this fall. One of my devout Catholic friends tells me she has been “offering a lot of sacrifices” for me. What does this mean? Is this just another way of saying she’s praying, or is something else involved? Thanks!
 
“Offering things up” for someone means not having dessert when it was there and you wanted it, holding your tongue when you could justify your mistake to someone, doing an extra task you didn’t have to, and the like. Catholic mothers are sometimes known to tell their children to do this instead of complaining :).
 
(That last sentence is an aside. It’s not just for children. Also, St. Therese referred to this as her “Little Way” to heaven, although there’s a bit more to that last.)
