I’ve been diagnosed with a serious condition which causes some considerable physical distress. I don’t want to waste it!:o I feel quite sad about it, but, as someone who wants to be Catholic, I want to approach it in a Catholic way. Any advice?🙂

Praise God for your willingness to accept this cross!

It’s okay to feel sad and upset, especially if you’re newly diagnosed, but don’t wallow in self-pity. You can offer your suffering up for a particular intention each day, or if you’re having particular pain just keep praying, “Heart on the Cross, Heart on the Cross”. Or you can reach out to others with the same or similar conditions and try and buoy them up with your love and optimism.

Also, reading St. Teresa of Avila’s writings or Story of a Soul by St. Therese of Lisieux has been particularly helpful for me!

I’ll be praying for you!

Offer your sufferings up to God or for all the aborted babies of the world. Remember God does not give you any cross to bear that you & Him can’t handle together. Let go & Let God. I’ll be praying to the Holy Spirit to give you strength & perseverence to get through this cross you bear.

Always suffer patiently and lovingly, and if you can, cheerfully. Unite your sufferings with our Lord’s and offer them up for some good intention. God bless you.

👍

OP, it is hard sometimes to suffer. I truly know. Just keep offering it up. 🙂

Remember to make your morning offering (see below) every morning, and when something seems extra unpleasant, renew your resolve to offer it up, and if you feel spiritually up to it, ask Jesus to attach you the cross and to give you more if it should be God’s will.

Morning Offering
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer Thee all my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for the intentions of Thy Sacred Heart, the salvation of souls, reparation of sin, the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all the apostles of prayer, and in particular for those intentions recommended by our Holy Father for this month. Amen.

“Embrace the cross lovingly, whenever it comes, as the most precious token of love I can give you in this life.” (Jesus to St. Margaret Mary)

“Help Me, My daughter, to save souls. Join your sufferings to My Passion and offer them to the Heavenly Father for sinners.” (Jesus to St. Faustina)

“When suffering is accepted with love, it is no longer suffering, but it is changed into joy.” (St. Therese)

🙂

Thank you - you’re all brilliant 🙂 Bless you for your encouragement and prayers.
