… Why would a Catholic not want to help a new convert to the Catholic faith? It’s puzzling.
I’m sorry that your experiences have been mixed. Please remember that even Catholics, and even believing Catholics who love and seek to serve Christ, are human. As such we have a fallen nature and are prone to error, most especially in how we deal with others. To this end, it is our responsibility to cultivate a nature of forgiveness. Know that if you pray to better learn forgiveness, you are most likely to encounter situations which test this virtue sorely. It is in this that you grow in the virtue, as it is tested and you are stretched.

God bless you as you continue to grow in your faith and understanding of all Christ has called you to be.

Thank you, G-d bless you too. G-d must be answering my prayers and allowing me to grow then. I’ve been praying for a forgiving spirit and I’ve had ample opportunity to forgive people lately! 🙂 I read a quote by Mother Teresa recently. She said something like, “I know G-d won’t give me more than I can handle. I just wish He didn’t trust me so much.” I agree.

The prophecies of Malachy are very disputable. Many of the names given are very vague and could be applied to many people. As Lisa said above, there is dispute about the authenticity because they showed up several hundred years after St. malachy.

They also do not predict the end of time. It just names the 112 popes that would follow that time. It says nothing about the end of time. I have heard that the last one is a later addition.

These have not been accepted by the Church. They could possibly be correct, but the Church does not support them. They don’t condemn them either.

Thank you. That says it all for me. If the Church does not support them, I’d prefer to not support them as well. For me, I think that’s the best policy, especialy being so new to the faith. 🙂

I agree. It can only worry someone to follow these prophecies. The Church does not support it so it is better to not worry about it.

Further, Christ said, only the Father knows when the end is. So it is highly unlikely that anyone can say when the end is.

I must say, as I read your mssg, I found myself laughing out loud (or LOL in post terminology), not laughing at, but laughing with you. Yup, God does stretch us, but not beyond our ability to grow.

Take care of yourself.

God Bless,

Thanks. G-d bless you too! Mother Teresa was so wise! 😃

Yes, I need to learn what is supported by the Church and what isn’t. I guess it’ll just be a slow learning process. RCIA starts back up in my parish this fall, I’m sure that will help too.

In dealing with humans you will get alot of different personalitys including abrasive ones.Steve(when you read this Steve please do reply)antagonized me to death …
I’m glad to see you’ve recovered 😉

Lisa you do see the irony of using Bold text, :tsktsk: , and :nope: in a post admonishing someone about antagonizing others don’t you? 😉

One of the limits of a forum is that important non-verbal signals are absent;
I’ve never thought of myself as particularly abrasive…glib perhaps.

When you read my posts, just assume they are accompanied by lots of hand waving and broad smiles.

That is just the way Lisa writes. It is not meant to be antagonizing. She just likes the bold type.

Thank you, antiaphrodite! I appreciate the prayers! (And I need them too! 🙂 )

By the way, when I decided to become a Catholic, I had no idea there was so much to the faith! Saints, prophecies, history, etc. What a rich history! 🙂

I think this is one of the things that most impresses me about the Catholic Church, the deeper you look into it, the richer it is. And what gives proof to the truth of it is that each layer, as you dig deeper into it, is consistant with the rest. All the pieces fit together into a beautiful, coherant picture.

With other things to which I’ve been attracted over the years, one finds upon closer inspection that the glitter isn’t gold and things aren’t what you expected when you look at it closely. With the Catholic Church, I’ve had exactly the opposite experience. The closer I look, the more beautiful it is!

I’m glad God deigned to call me home!

And it’s great that we’re all here together.

God bless the bunch of ya’,

I agree. My Protestant friends (And my parents) have been telling me for years that Catholics aren’t faithful and don’t honor G-d with their lives. I’ve been told for years that Catholicism is a religion of convenience. (My Protestant friends love to tell me how a Catholioc can just live however he/she wants, say a few Hail Marys, and be done with it. Instant forgiveness.) However, the more I dig into the faith, the more I find that that isn’t true. Catholicism actually requires more from its followers that Protestantism requires from its followers. Catholicism requires devotion and Christian living. My Protestant friends are wrong, but they still don’t believe me.

Remember that time, consistancy and the example you show them in your life are the best ways you can convert those who know you. This means you have the hard work ahead of putting your money where your mouth is and acting on your convictions consistantly.

As for the timing, the Holy Spirit does the converting, not us. We are merely used as His tool when the timing is right. In the meantime, we lead our lives as best we can and hope there are good things happening through our example, even when we don’t have the opportunity to see it.

Thanks! I don’t know what else to do, other than live the life and pray for them.

Case in point: I just got finished talking to a friend of mine just a few minutes ago. It was my friend who is a Protestant missionary in Japan. We were talking about the Blessed Virgin Mirian, and she was finding fault in everythign I said. She wouldn’t listen, and just wanted to shoot me down. I know that her arguments aren’t right, but I didn’t know what to say to her to refute them. I finally just said, “Study church history, you’ll see.” Is it rude to scream in a post, because I really feel like it! :banghead: L-rd, help me!

I’ve found the most amazing things happen when I’m in a similar situation and I remember to stop thinking about what I’m going to say next and instead, listen to them and pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance. The Holy Spirit is absolutely amazing!

The better you listen to what they’re saying, the better you can focus on matters of the heart that relate to what they’re saying to you, rather than some canned answer that they’ve probably learned to refute without even hearing it in the first place. You want to approach their heart, for that is where a good mother like Mary belongs, in the heart.

Good luck and God bless,

Thank you, I’m going to pray long and hard about this. I’m also going ton read up on the status of the souls of Protestants. I think it’ll help me persoanlly to know specifically what the Church teaches.

When talking with them, remember that only God knows the state of their souls, so assume that if they believe they have a good relationship with Christ that this is so and seek to find how you share that love. Find that which brings you together through Christ and rest assured that a loving God will, in the best time, bring them to his side if this is a sincere desire on their part.
