At this link, I read the following post, and thought that I would really be interested to hear more on Catholic Prophecy:

*Agree mangy. Many of us Catholics think that a conditional minor chastisement (but its hardly “minor” at all) is soon to befall us. Many of us are praying the Divine Mercy chaplet and rosary daily to see if we can appeal to God and avoid it. But the world is squandering this period of mercy. I think it is coming within the life of Benedict - he is the last pope mentioned in St. Malachy’s prophesies. It will be impossible for anyone to have any doubt about the one true religion soon and life as we know it will change forever and for billions. Catholics should be prepared and non-Catholics need to open their hearts to conversion before its too late. We get one major sign shortly before the lights go out permanently for 75% of the earth’s population.

You are the first person to recognize my subtleties 🙂 I too pray daily for the conversion of all true christian protestants prior to these events which are rapidly approaching. I pray that St. Michaels sword is stayed a little longer.
If only they knew that the Theotokos is the one staying that sword.

God bless you my friend.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

What are these “Malachy’s prophesies” all about, and where can I read them online?

Thankyou, in advance, to anyone who participates in this topic. 👍 **

“Malachy’s Prophesies” is the name of a fictionalized “description” of the popes through history.
I say fictionalized, because the popes that came before the document are described in great detail. Those who follow after the date this first appeared, are so vague that they might describe anyone…
For example, the last pope is “Peter”. Well-- All popes are the successors of Peter. It’s kinda like saying that “Hey,😛 my fish can swim”…You can pretty well bet on it, that that fish will swim…You know???

And yes, you can just google it…
…official Catholic writings…
Its not official. That’s the thing…

the irish have it right, malachy’s prophesies are really malarkey.

Most reviews I have seen are derogatory in nature; yet it is evident by posters here, and elsewhere that there are many Catholics who believe these, and other such prophecies.

Catholics seem rather at odds with one another over “prophecy,” not really having anything to believe in there. Yet, the Bible is filled with prophecy; and all I ever hear Catholics say is that “it’s not official doctrine,” or “we cannot know.” Often they just dismiss it all away by saying it has already happened.

I would like to see a Catholic speak about the prophecies that your church actually does believe in, and that would be an official belief of the Catholic Church.

Here is an example. Consider the following text:
Mat 3:4 And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
Mat 3:5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
Mat 3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Mat 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
What was Jesus talking about when He said: “the wrath to come?”

google under the category “science fiction”’

you won’t find any thing by this name on an orthodox Catholic site because it is a forgery and has no relation at all to any orthodox Catholic teaching.

Its just a list of the Popes names by way of symbols.
At the end it says the Church will undergo a final persecution and Peter the Roman will feed his flock. Many tribulations. Then the Judge will judge His people.
Nothing new in that.
The world will end sometime.
The Catholic Church will last till the end of time.
The Pope, Peter the Roman, will always feed his flock.
Wars, rumours of wars etc.
Christ returns.
Everyone is judged.

No surprises there, whether Malachies prophecies are really Malachies or not.

More interesting maybe are some of the prophecies of the Popes, if you can find them. As they at least have a provenance.

Thanks; your answer was helpful.

But I would be really interested to hear about any bonafide prophecies published by any pope.

I am very puzzled as to why you would say: “If you can find them.” Can you explain that comment more?

I guess this hits on one of my concerns re Catholic beliefs, is the prophecy thing. Whenever I hear Catholics talk about prophecy, it is almost always very ambiguous; yet I don’t think that Bible prophecy is actually like that.

Ambiguous…? You should get a copy of the Catholic book, Prophecy for Today. It includes approved and not-yet-approved (or unapproved) prophesies, some from visions and saints. BTW, Pope Benedict is not the last Pope in the prophesies. There is one after him mentioned. I’m neutral towards the prophesies; although they do seem to be somewhat accurate (at least to me). I guess we’ll find out when Petrus Romanus comes.

Thanks. Can anyone tell me where to read this book online, or about this book online? Or, how to buy it?

They are fake!

You can get it on Tanbooks.com. You should also look at Forty Dreams of St.John Bosco.
Thankyou for the info. I cleaned up my office last night and discovered that I actually have this book; and now it is all coming back to me. I think I recall last year bringing up this book to forum members, and was basically told that it is “private revelation;” and not official doctrine, per se.

This is part of what I mean by saying that with Catholic prophecies, it is too ambiguous; one can never be quite sure of what it means.

For those who have this book, do you know if there are any “approved” visions or prophecies therein?

Actually, this book would be well worth discussing here, as inspite of it all, it does detail many ideas from Catholic apologists/theologians, that could use clarification. Even on the first page, the author makes a false, misleading statement about prophets. I will come back soon and provide a few more details when time permits.

Do you know what it means when the Church ‘approves’ an apparition?

I am not sure the Church approves individual prophecies.

That is why I put it in the form of a question; I am wondering if the Catholic Church approves either/or or both, prophecies and visions? If so, what is the criteria, and do we find any in this book that meet the criteria?

It is certainly widely read by Catholics. It must be important.

“Widely read” is hardly a measure of importance.

Have you tried researching online specific items you wonder about?

ahumm… I think I just meant it might be difficult to find on the internet. Try to Google if you like, but not everything lives to google.

But.
Here is one Papal vision/prophesy that I like;

"Exactly 33 years to the day prior to the great Miracle of the Sun in Fatima, that is, on October 13, 1884, Pope Leo XIII had a remarkable vision. When the aged Pontiff had finished celebrating Mass in his private Vatican Chapel, attended by a few Cardinals and members of the Vatican staff, he suddenly stopped at the foot of the altar. He stood there for about 10 minutes, as if in a trance, his face ashen white. Then, going immediately from the Chapel to his office, he composed the prayer to St. Michael, with instructions it be said after all Low Masses everywhere. When asked what had happened, he explained that, as he was about to leave the foot of the altar, he suddenly heard voices - two voices, one kind and gentle, the other guttural and harsh. They seemed to come from near the tabernacle. As he listened, he heard the following conversation:

The guttural voice, the voice of Satan in his pride, boasted to Our Lord:
“I can destroy your Church.”

The gentle voice of Our Lord:
“You can? Then go ahead and do so.”

Satan:
“To do so, I need more time and more power.”

Our Lord:
"How much time? How much power?

Satan:
“75 to 100 years, and a greater power over those
who will give themselves over to my service.”

Our Lord:
“You have the time, you will have the power.
Do with them what you will.” "

Prayer of St. Michael

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us on the day of battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

St. Malachy’s prophecies concerns the popes. While in a vision, he was given the names of 112 popes with a short Latin phrase that described either their papacy or their lineage. According to Malachy’s prophecy we are at pope number 111 right now - that would be “de Gloriae Olivae” or the Glory of the Olive. Which corresponds to Pope Benedict XVI. While a lot of misplaced speculation abounds, the final description in the list does not indicate the end of the world but it does indicate the end of “time”. That too lends itself to much mis-interpretation. It may be a time of mercy or just a period of time and the beginning of another period of time…but not the end of the world.
The last name that appears on the list is “Petrus Romanus” which would refer to the pope after the current one.
There’s more to the prophecy but this is it in a nutshell.

There is a very good book all about Catholic teaching on prophecy.Very authoritative. Discusses in detail approved unapproved private prophecy.the book is pretty focused on Catholic teaching about end times. It is"Trial,Tribulation&Triumph Before during and after the Antichrist"by Desmond A. Birch.Excellent book!I highly recommend it.Published by Queenship Publishing co.
