It is refreshing to see a review based on first person experience. While the writer did not use the terms “trash” and “garbage,” it’s too bad that he couldn’t rise above such *banal * phrases as "features a modern-day Marquis de Sade as its male protagonist" or “But we’re on to this dungeon-loving Bruce Wayne’s real identity.” Is this written for Catholic News Services or a high school newspaper? And this,

“Additionally, for those grounded in faith, Ana and Christian’s relationship presents a disturbing case study in the resolute frustration of God’s twin purposes in endowing human beings with the gift of sexuality: Not only is fruitfulness intentionally forestalled in the interest of uncommitted pleasure, spiritual union is displaced for the sake of a disordered exchange of possession and surrender.”

The same could be said for A Streetcar Named Desire or even Gone With The Wind, not to mention a myriad of “classic” movies.

This remark, "The film contains…at least one crude term " will leave me wondering for the rest of my life! Apparently, as a movie, it is pretty bad. It’s too bad the review couldn’t have been better.
The review from the actual actors is about as first person as you can get, they panned it!

Actually, these are the types of things Dakota Johnson said about her part in the movie:

"In fact, when asked if she had any doubts about agreeing to the part, Dakota, 25, told The Telegraph: 'Absolutely. The whole time. Even now there are moments when I think, 'What the f** have I done?’

Dakota …said she’s comfortable appearing nude on screen, but that doesn’t mean she wants her family to see it.

‘It’s true that I’m not ashamed of my body. I’m comfortable and I think more women should be more confident. I think nudity and sexual scenes in movies are beautiful when they’re tastefully done.’

Her family however have been ‘banned’ from watching the film. ‘I don’t want them to see it. I wouldn’t want to see them doing it.’

Meanwhile, Dakota has braced herself in case the film bombs: 'A lot of really amazing actors do really s* movies. It happens. Sometimes all the ingredients don’t work.’ *"

While the male lead said this about it:

'I can tell you from an alarmingly first-hand perspective it’s not altogether sexy. But I’ve been in a dungeon with a lukewarm beer while a dominant has had some fun with his submissive and it was very playful and jovial and not at all dark and serious. There was a lot of laughter."

It doesn’t sound to me that the actors are panning anything.

Lifesite news,Wed edition,look it up…

I didn’t see it but Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rotten rating so regardless of its content and controversy its also apparently a poorly done film in general.

Yes, the secular reviewers weren’t very impressed. A few reviewers from “important” publications seemed to take an “I’ve seen better” as in, perversion presented better approach. The Catholic Legion of Decency helped Catholics make good choices about movies in the past. I’ll stick to well-regarded Catholic sites as opposed to secular, although I do keep tabs from time to time.

I think it’s time to re-form the Legion of Decency.

Happily, this movie has been severely dumped on by the critics. After the first weekend excitement is over, it will disappear into DVD rental oblivion.

Please, everyone, join me in boycotting this film!
People can do it. Just look at the appeal of the first Star Wars movie. Shirley Temple became popular as a result of too many films aimed at the baser instincts. I worked in a movie theater for five years and can tell you that every ticket sold for a given film is a vote for more of the same. It only makes sense. Why would producers make musicals when spy movies are selling?

At least some cast members from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills have promoted the Fifty Shades of Grey feature film! Should I boycott RHOBH because of the situation?

BTW, does this article offer hope?
