Sounds like a quasimodo made rule to me
nope. I just took a course covering a lot of canon law regarding marriage.

people used to try to kidnap women and force them into marriage - hoping they would eventually learn to love their ‘husband’ … or rather, at least enough of them tried it often enough for the church to make a specific rule about it. no such rule was made for men, because it was never a problem. besides the men might have enjoyed it …

I guess I’ll have to let my son know his “marriage” plans for Ms. Cuthberth will have to be changed.

He’ll be so disapointed.

Don’t worry. I understand the mail-order bride business is still booming!!!

RChurch,
Many of the “rules” are intended for our spiritual discipline, and the sin in not conforming to them is due to the fact that to ignore them is to ignore the exercises given to us by Christ’s Bride.

The way I figure, Adam fell because he didn’t listen when God said “because I say so”, and I have the same kind of issue with authority. So it seems appropriate that God would give us exercises in submitting to “because I say so”.
