Because parents, boyfriends, husbands, friends, and abortion providers pressure and threaten women into abortions and it is a real injustice in our society. Many women who do not get abortions upon the requests of their partners are often beaten in order to induce miscarriages. (The increased risk for domestic violence against women when they are pregnant has been well documented). There have been many cases were men beat women and purposefully hit their stomachs or stab them in the stomach, push them down stairs, or even run them over with a car in order to kill the baby. So many women face potentially lethal violence at home, or a coerced “legal” abortion. Isn’t this something we should be discussing as a nation which allows abortions because it is a “woman’s choice?”
I hope the mother and her children are able to go to a battered women’s shelter and receive counseling and assistance. I couldn’t even read the news story itself because just reading what you mentioned in your OP was enough for me.
