It really bothers me to see cases being reported to the police 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years after they happened. :mad:
In the rush to prosecute priests, many states have raise or eliminated the statute of limitations. I find this to be a barrier to justice, which not only needs to prosecute the criminal, but also avoid prosecution of the innocent. As a juror, I would never find anyone guilty without some physical evidence. The fact is, people can lie and often do. When decades pass, reliability of witnesses decline even more. I simply do not think anyone can get a fair trial after a decade, unless compelling physical evidence exists of the actual crime.

Please review the status of your state’s mandatory reporter law as regards child abuse/neglect. ALL adults should have a mandatory reporting duty.
I agree, there should be a general duty to report imminent serious violent crimes (someone is being raped, robbed, murdered right now). In the case of children and vulnerable adults, this should apply even when the danger is not imminent (happening right now).
