In the rush to prosecute priests, many states have raise or eliminated the statute of limitations. I find this to be a barrier to justice, which not only needs to prosecute the criminal, but also avoid prosecution of the innocent. As a juror, I would never find anyone guilty without some physical evidence. The fact is, people can lie and often do. When decades pass, reliability of witnesses decline even more. I simply do not think anyone can get a fair trial after a decade, unless compelling physical evidence exists of the actual crime.Agreed!
It really bothers me to see cases being reported to the police 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years after they happened.![]()
