I agree, with toddlers and older children. But it just doesn’t work with infants, nor should it be tried. Babies cry when they want or need something, and there is no alternative way for them to communicate. Trying to teach them the lesson that crying isn’t acceptable would be tantamount to abuse.You don’t explain it. You just don’t reward such behavior at any age. Once they figure out that screaming doesn’t get them what they want, they quit. Some kids take longer to figure it out, but they all figure it out eventually. You’ve just got the hang in there.
But more to the point, it doesn’t matter what me, you, or the OP’s mom thinks about this. Its between the couple and it isn’t the place of grandma to criticize.
