My husband recently read “Every Man’s Battle” by Arterburn and Stoeker to help him quit masterbating and to improve his overall purity. It was extremely helpful, but it doesn’t take into account couples practicing Natural Family Planning. Does anyone know of a similar book that includes the Catholic perspective and gives examples of Catholics who have successfully beat this addiction?

TOB (Theology of the Body) does a great job of explaining why not to do it. Several books out there. My favorite, still, since it turned me around. I recommend reading and discussing it together.
Specifically, I don’t know what the M thing has to do with practicing NFP. I’m guessing that the “treatment” involves suggesting sex in place of M and so NFP users would not have that option at times. Am I correct?

Thank you for your reply. We’ve listened to Christopher West’s “Theology of the Body” a number of times and helped teach the teen version of “Theology of the Body.” My husband is doing well with controlling the M, but I was hoping to find another book for him to help support him in his battle. You are right though, the other book did suggest sex in place of M. My husband only has trouble when we are abstaining, so that’s where the other book wasn’t helpful.

Well all other Catholic sources I have read point to scripture and say: Pray. Spend his time praying anytime the urge comes upon him. I stuggle at this time too, but so far God granted my sincere request to help me drop all that associated stuff. Pray and pray some more. Addictions need to be replaced by something. And prayer is a good thing!
