I chose to say I would only do it for a year because I intend to honor St. Paul and now we are in the declared “Year of St. Paul.” However, I think it is entirely possible that I would decide to continue, but I’m just not committing at this point. I’d like to see how it goes. For the reasons mentioned in an earlier post, I don’t see the basis in Paul for NOT lectoring.

Regarding the nuns discssion about ordination of women, I did express my opinion that it requires humility to accept the Vatican teaching, and that Christ calls priests not the other way around, and that if He had meant to ordain women, He never had any better candidate than His own Mother, but I saw a stubborness of position that really didn’t budge, in my opinion.

Except that the “keep silent” thing was interpretted that way for 1900 years. If it was a mixed congregation, only men would speak. Only if it was a congregation of all women (like Nuns singing the Office) would any of them read any of the lessons. But never with men present.

In the Tridentine Mass you will see no women lectors…it was a minor order of clergy. And the Propers were reserved to the choir of clergy. The most that women (in the congregation and lay chorus) would sing would be the Ordinary.

And even in the Novus Ordo instituted Lectors are still a ministry reserved for men, as are instituted Acolytes. Lay “readers” and “altar servers” may be men or women if the bishop allows it…but they are technically extraordinary do not have the same official status as instituted Lectors and Acolytes, who still have to be male.

“Prophesying” was something done outside of Liturgy. An extraordinary charismata. And “prayer” can be silent.

I’m just saying that wearing the mantilla and then being a female lay reader or EMHC…is a strange mix of traditional and incredibly non-traditional. It sends a mixed message in light of Church tradition, regardless of how you interpret Paul.

I already wear a mantilla and took it a step further after reading “Immodesty, Satan’s Virtue”. I left the Pentecostal Church in 2001 and made my confirmation in 2002. I remember when I was a little girl my grandma would take me to church and if I forgot my handkerchief she should bobby pin a tissue to my head. As a child this gave me the distinct feeling that I was entering someplace very special! I thank my grandma for all her rosaries and teaching me this very important part of a Christian Woman’s spiritual life. I sing in the Choir at my Parish and we are situated on the righthandside (upper front) of the Church. No one has ever looked at me wrong or made me feel different because I wear a headveil. In fact I have received compliments from women who don’t dare wear one. I can’t help how people may think and it really doesnt bother me at all, as I do it for my risen Lord and Savior and no one else. What matters to me is what HE thinks and not what the people of this world have to say or think. My personal opinion is that if HE could bleed, be beaten to a pulp and ridculed for me, then why can’t I do this for him inspite of what others may say. I don’t do it as rebellion. I also feel that if Paul said “even the Angels are offended” when speaking of a woman entering the House of God with their hair uncovered. If the Angels were offended then, why would they no longer be offended? In the revelations of Jesus to St. Gertrude he also spoke of the woman veiling her head. Thanks Be to God, I now see 2 other women who are now wearing headveils to Mass too. To date I have been approached at different church’s by women asking me about veiling in a positive manner. For nearly two thousand years we covered our hair. It is only since Vatican II when it wasnt even discussed, that some women stopped veiling. **One other thing that I have noted is that even Barbara Bush who isnt even Catholic wore a veil when in the presence of the Pope!! (I have a copy of the picture!) Sooooo if even the First Lady is required to wear one, then how much more would we not wear one for Jesus himself? **

**Padre Pio was another who would chase women out of his confessional if they weren’t veiled and modestly dressed. This got to be such a problem that the Friars had to post a sign stating this fact. **

I say Kuddos to you and as one of the other ladies mentioned to you earlier. I believe after veiling for a year you will definately feel naked without your veil. Do it HIM who is deserving!

May God Bless You With As Many Blessings As Only HE can Count!

VERITAS!

lydiaesther is absolutely correct, for nearly 2000 years, women cover their head in the church, once V2 came out , people just starting to ignore God and His church, people are changing… i not criticize V2 okay, but let just see ourself… we are losing our faith if we didn’t do something now. christian is declined bcos we are losing our faith and muslime is growing bcos they have stronger faith… Benedict must do something before too late…
Deo gratias, iesus christum…
