Is there proper etiquette for the Mantilla? Like, priests and bishops are not to wear anything on their heads when in presence of the Eucharist. When the Eucharist is exposed, therefore, are women wearing Mantillas expected to take them off? Is it an error to keep them on?

Men are expected to remove headwear during times of prayer and benediction. Women were expected to cover their heads at all times as a matter of modesty. In the contemporary Church in countries like America and most European countries, headware for women is a fashion statement or, like the mantilla, a part of the cultural heretage.
  • The only norms are those of common courtesy:
  • don’t wear huge ornate hats that would block other worshippers from participating in the mass.
  • Mantillas should be properly secured so they don’t take flight during the service and show disrespect where the mantilla was meant to show humility.
  • Mantillas longer the shoulders should be reserved for First Communion, Confirmation and Bridal ensambles.
