I’ve noticed that many people have an approach to situations and people like they are Vulcans from the Star Trek movies. They seem to be all brain and logic but don’t seem to think that emotional matters or attachments are very important.

Do you think Jesus is more like the logical Spock or the passionate Captain Kirk?

Picard is God. Ergo, Jesus is Picard.

Even if it is a blasphemy, that made me lol. Picard is my favorite as well.

As to the OP’s question, those two characters represent two extremes of human nature, that’s why they were set opposite each other, it created immediate drama. Christ was probably a mixture of two. He was both logical and emotional, after all, he loved us to the point of dying for us; and he was able to put the Pharacies in their place with some simple logical statemented about sacred scriptures.

He also had qualities that neither of these two possessed, at least not Kirk… Spock had some. That is humility.

I would say that this is their goal, but they ignore the emotional matters that DO influence their perspectives.

Emotion and attachment are definitely discounted - part of the reason, I suppose, that just following our whims no matter what they are is considered “no big deal” and not the stuff of serious conversation. But they exist and are important. Not everything, but important.

One slight problem: Kirk was my least faverit captain on Star Trek. 😃 😛

I believe that it was Dr. McCoy who represented the emotional opposite to Spock. Kirk was the man of action that had to decide between the two’s advice and miraculously always found the right balance.

The only thing that has surpassed the original series is the latest J.J. Abrams movie. Through it lacked a good villain and the red goo that destroys planets was pathetic. Having two Spocks was brilliant. Spock is what made the franchise.

As someone who is prone to melancholia and major depression, I would very much like to become wholly anemotional.

But it’s like trying to live without sleeping; it’s not how your soma is made.

Rest assured, everybody has emotional issues, some just suppress them.

And in any case, it is not necessary to be profusely emotional to follow our LORD.

I never understood how the Vulcans managed to do this. You can’t will your emotions away. And it was clear that although they pretended that they had no emotions, they had really only suppressed them.

I thought it looked cool, but I was horrified by the whole retcon aspect and the tawdry love triangle the filmmakers created.

I’m half Vulcan, as I’ve stated in another thread.😃 I am not emotional when it comes to debating about the Catholic Faith. And when I have arguments with my wife or other people I am very logical (I get in trouble with my wife for that sometimes :o). But I am very emotional otherwise with my family, and my closest friends.

Christ grieved for Lazarus, did he not?

I’m not entirely sure Spock would agree with your characterization of him, but point taken.

Anyway, I don’t know where you hail from but I live in and around New York and people here are not shy about showing their emotions.

Does that makes the Church the USS Enterprise or the United Federation of Planets?

Wait, seriously? The latest movie was great. It did a very good job of resetting the universe and opening the door for a lot more new Start Trek stuff to come.

You must be joking!!

Captain Kirk saved the Humpback whales by time travelling into the past, picking up George and Gracie - the Humpbacks- and bringing them into the future!!

Way to go Captain!!!

Ahem…to get back to the original topic. I believe God is very passionate. He also creates a wide variety of extremes. People gravitate toward what makes them comfortable, for some that’s logic, for others emotion. Being warm, loving, and good at relationships is a skill, which people MAY learn from their parents. Think of people like flowers, some are white, but others are gold, purple, hot pink, or red. People are like that too; different, but good at different things the world needs! 👍

live long and prosper.
