Many Protestants Are Just Plain Ignorant

Tradition, scriptures and Authority dotn have contradition.
you have to read the bible as a book of covenants. and not as a book to prove your own point of view quoting any passage.

Scripture have no authority when you read it you can say whatever you want, it just depend of the person that is reading it.
if soemoen read the bible they could transform Jesus in a prophet in a Angel like mormons do, in a normal human been etc etc

Why all this? because if you read the scripture then you “are the authority” you choose what you want and you reject what you dotn like.

Otherwise why there are a lot of sects that are not even chrisitans claiming that they have the real truth by the authority of the bible?

btw Explain me the reason about the Cherubines please ? 🙂

How does an officially Catholic government making it ILLEGAL to spread heresies make it seem that Catholicism is “unable to stand up to scrutiny or questions”? Seems to me that sends a strong message:

WE DON’T WANT YOUR KIND AROUND HERE

Remember, “freedom of religion” is a heresy, not part of the Catholic Faith.
You are right. It does send that message very strongly. Exactly the same way that non-Christian countries who forbid Christian missionaries (Catholic or Protestant) send that same message, whether because they are Communist or a theocracy of a different sort. Freedom of religion is a heresy in many religions and some forms of politics. It is part of the reason that there was and is concern regarding Roman Catholics and followers of other religions who do not hold freedom of religion as a teaching in positions of political power in the US—the concern that they will not be able to look beyond that teaching and uphold the Constitution, which does include freedom of religion, that the conflict of interest will be too great.

I’m just telling you how it looks from the outside. What message does it send when a Muslim country forbids Christian missionaries? What message did it send when Christian missionaries were not allowed behind the Iron Curtain? It looks like a fear-based reaction, that one feels that the missionaries pose a substantial enough and creditable enough threat to warrant such a law. Perhaps that is indeed the message the Church wants to send, I don’t know.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by THE DOOR into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber” (John 10:1).

“I AM THE DOOR: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” Jesus is the door into Heaven. Listen to John 11:25,26. “Jesus said unto her, I AM THE RESURRECTION, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.

I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”

“I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be SAVED” (Romans 10:13).

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that ALL SHOULD COME TO REPENTANCE (2nd Peter 3:9).

God COMMANDS us to repent. “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent” (Acts 17:30). It is not an option whether or not we want to repent, it is a divine command from Almighty God. It is wicked for any person not to repent when they have been warned to do so. We hear Bible preaching everywhere in this great nation, we are all without excuse if we fail to heed the masters call to repentance.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

What message does it send when a Muslim country forbids Christian missionaries?
It tells me: “Hey, these guys mean business!” I’m not offended by it, I’m intrigued and impressed! It tells me that they are serious about their faith, and if they’re serious about Islam, maybe one day they can be serious about Catholic Christianity, with the help of the blood of martyrs.

(Uh, just don’t ask me to volunteer to be one of those martyrs…as I slink, sheepishly, into the corner…)

(I wonder if TnL has noticed we have stopped paying attention to him?)

"“It has been nearly 2,000 years since Paul shipwrecked on the shore of Malta and shared the gospel for the first time with the Maltese people, and yet today there are only an estimated 400 evangelicals out of more than 400,000 inhabitants.

“Reaching Malta with the gospel is as much needed now as it was when Paul arrived,” Pierson said. "

Reaching Malta with the Gospel? Seems to me like they already have the Gospel…

“The country is entrenched in Catholicism and the majority of the people worship Mary instead of her son, Jesus Christ, Margrave shared.”

You know what I have realized? So much Protestant ignorance of the Catholic Church could be avoided if they would just ignore their pride for just one minute and investigate, rather than making dumb statements like the above.

…the anointing which ye have received of him [God] abideth in you… the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. 1 John 2:27

We are not taught of man.

…ye need not that any man teach you 1 John

Which things also we speak, NOT in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, 1 Corinthians 2:13 2:27

Men lie. We must rely on the Bible.

God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar Romans 3:4
God is not a man, that he should lie…Numbers 23:19

(I wonder if TnL has noticed we have stopped paying attention to him?)
Apparently he doesn’t really care. I wonder if the Maltese (of which 80+% attend the Sacrifice of the Mass EVERY WEEK) ignored or laughed at the Tennessean Baptists?

I have to admit, I’m all for throwing rotten eggs at Protestants, especially when they’re “preaching the Gospel” in one of the most Christian places on Earth.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by THE DOOR into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber” (John 10:1).
Why do you use this Scripture verse?
“I AM THE DOOR: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” Jesus is the door into Heaven. Listen to John 11:25,26. “Jesus said unto her, I AM THE RESURRECTION, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
The Catholic Church acknowledge that 100%.
I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”
The Catholic Church upheld the Truth.

But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 1 Tim 3:15
“I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).
Indeed Jesus is the Good Shepard. Like a good shepard he will not leave us orphans. He told Peter feed my sheep in the following verses:

John 21 Found phrase

17 He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep.

2 John 21

15 When therefore they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs.

3 John 21

16 He saith to him again: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs.
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be SAVED” (Romans 10:13).
Indeed whoever says the name of the Lord is saved provided that he persevere to the end. You can break away from the root if you sin.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that ALL SHOULD COME TO REPENTANCE (2nd Peter 3:9).
We have repentance, its called the Sacrament of Reconciliation instituted by Jesus Christ whom he gave this gift to the Apostles and their successors the bishops.
We are called to Repentance everyday as well as to conversion in hearts to Jesus.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
Except Jesus, and Mary. All doesn’t necessary means all literally. Adam and Eve before the fall were conceived without sin.

I have to admit, I’m all for throwing rotten eggs at Protestants, especially when they’re “preaching the Gospel” in one of the most Christian places on Earth.
shares rotten eggs

We are not taught of man.
Now that we now that the primitive church was one and that this church was made apostolicly.

Then we can talk about soemthing else, the very same bible tell you that the Authority of the **only church of Jesus **has been gaven to Peter.
The only that has the power granted by Jesus **to bind stuffs in heaven and in earth.**that authority is in the “church”

He is the one that has to take care of the lambs of God.

If we are not suposed to be taugh by men then why would Jesus command the apostoles to do discipels rather than to command them to write only the scriptures?
I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”
Jesus by saying that he meant that every soul that is save, is save not because of his own virtudes, but rather because of his sacrifice that has redemed mankind and brought back the friendship with the Father, he had reconciliated us with the Father.

He is the only one that thanks to his sacrifice we can be save.
and perhaps you dotn know but the church teach this.

If we are save is only and exclusevely because of the "sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and “not” because of our own merits.

Jesus didint say that we cant use an intercesor to pray to him.

He simply said that only through him “only by his sacrifice” salvation come to us and not by our virtudes, because he redemed us with the ultimate sacrifice.
and catholics believe this.

"So when they had broken their fast, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
He saith to him again a second time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Tend my sheep.
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. " John 21:15-17

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."Matthew 16:18-19

I had to laugh when I read DixiesFinest response… when I first opened this thread I read the article. Being Catholic and living in Nashville, Tennessee and “entrenched” with Southern Baptists and the Southern Baptist Convention, I decided to write an email to the Tennessee Baptist Convention and vent my frustration about them making blind and dumb comments. To my surprise, all 4 points that DixiesFinest had pulled from the article in this post were the points that I had copied in my email to “enlighten” them a bit! Great minds MUST think alike… !!! 👍

Somehow i think there are more Catholics ignorant of their faith than Protestants who are ignorant of the Catholic faith.

is there any consolation that many Protestants have a sincere love for the Lord and for truth, even if they are lacking the full truth? i’d venture to say many even put us to shame in that department…

Protestant… non-denominational… tomato tomatoe…

Not in Malta. I don’t think you could get away with 80+% of the country attending Sunday Mass and some sizable number of them being ignorant of the Faith.

Catholic Catechism
"2132 The Christian veneration of images is not contrary to the first commandment which proscribes idols. Indeed, “the honor rendered to an image passes to its prototype,” and “whoever venerates an image venerates the person portrayed in it.”[70] The honor paid to sacred images is a “respectful veneration,” not the adoration due to God alone: "

First of all, not bowing to a graven image is the 2nd command, not the first. The 10th commandment into two to make up for the missing 2nd commandment. Why are there two commandments telling us not to covet? Seems kind of strange don’t you think? You can’t just eradicate the 2nd commandment!

Catholics number the Ten Commandment differently than do Protestants. Since Catholics did this at least a thousand years before the reformation… it seems that it is the Protestants who deviated, not the Catholics.

Catholics and Lutherans (except the Bucer) combine all of the commandment relating to false worship and false Gods into one, while most Protestants divide this text into two commandments. Thus Catholics and Lutherans have the commandment forbidding using God’s name in vain as the second commandment. Then the 9th commandment is regarding sins of the flesh and the 10th commandment deals with unlawful possession of good.

So it seems that you are mistaken here about the content of the commandment.

I just love the way they claim they must “spread the Gospel” to all those Catholics who desperately “need Jesus”. As if a few-hundreds-years-old sect can bring Christ to those who have been worshiping Him in Spirit and Truth since the day He ascended to Heaven. Oh well, they are just teaching what their followers’ “itching ears” want to hear…

God clearly warns us in Exodus 20:4-5 NOT to make unto ourselves ANY graven images. The brazen serpent was God’s idea, not Moses. God never told us ANYWHERE in the Word of God to make a statue of anyone or anything. The Israelites were instructed to “look” to the serpent (which pictured Christ) and live. The people were NOT instructed to bow, honor, or pray to a statue.it’s a direct violation of the 2nd Commandment

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God…” -Exodus 20:4,5

John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth” -Philippians 2:9,10

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” -Acts 4:12

Mark 7:13…

“Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition…”

For there is one God, and ONE MEDIATOR between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 2:5

Paul VI, Christi Matri. “The Church … been accustomed to have recourse to that most ready intercessor, her Mother Mary … For as St. Irenaeus says, she 'has become the cause of salvation for the whole human race”

John Paul II, Mother of the Redeemer, 1987.

Pius IX, Ubi Primum, 1849: “For God has committed to Mary the treasury of all good things, in order that everyone may know that THROUGH HER are obtained every hope, every grace, and ALL SALVATION. For this is his will, that we obtain everything through Mary.”

Leo XIII, Supremi Apostolatus, 1883: “O Mary, the guardian of our peace and the dispensatrix of heavenly graces.”

Plus X, Ad Diem Illum, 1904: “It was granted to the august Virgin to be together with her Only-begotten Son the most powerful Mediatrix and Conciliatrix of the whole world. So Christ is the source . . . Mary, however, as St. Bernard justly remarks, is the channel, or she is the neck by which the Body is united to the Head… through which ALL spiritual gifts are communicated to his Body.”

Benedict XV, In a decree on Joan of Are: “In every miracle we must recognize the mediation of Mary, through whom, according to God’s will, every grace and blessing comes to us.”

Plus XI, Miserentissimus Redemptor, 1928: "Confiding in her intercession with Jesus, “the one Mediator of God and man, who wished to associate his own Mother with himself as the advocate of sinners, as the dispenser and mediatrix of grace.”

Plus XII, Superiore Anno, 1940: “As St. Bernard declares, 'it is the will of God that we obtain favors through Mary, let everyone hasten to have recourse to Mary.”

Scripture is clear that the Lord alone is our redeemer. To Israel God proclaimed, “I, the Lord, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob” (Isaiah 49:26). The New Testament Scriptures reveal that it is in God’s “beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13-14). God justifies sinners “through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24).

🙂
The commandment is to not WORSHIP graven images, not make them. Otherwise we could not have any statues, artwork, bric-a-brack, etc., anywhere. Does your church have a cross on or in it? That’s a graven image!!! But as long as you don’t worship it as though it is God, you’re ok!

We know Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. To say otherwise is to show your continued ignorance in Catholic beliefs. Maybe it’s just a little too deep for Protestants.

No it does not have a cross on it.
