Many say it does not say it in the Bible.

Whenever a Bible-Only Christian tells me:

That is not in the Bible. I reply:

First show me where the Bible says it must explicitly be said in the Bible?
And…does that work? Did that convince them that you were right and they were wrong?

I’ve read many times that all non-Catholics are heretics and that all are going to hell 😛
By “here” I meant on this thread.

Incidentally, would I be correct in concluding that the posts calling all non-Catholics “heretics” are by radical traditional Feeneyesque posters here?

Can you provide some sources of posts in which all non-Catholics have been called heretics? (Note: describing a position as “heresy” is not the same as calling someone–that is, all non-Catholics–heretics.)

Is there another alternative? In order for them to believe:It must be in the Bible, the burden of proof is on them to explicitly show where the Bible makes such claim?

Well, it’s not like we can just pick up the phone and call the Pope, or even our Bishop. So really, is it that difficult to understand others who can’t relate to the Pope as our or their “Couneslor”?
But it’s quite easy to get a Catechism, read their encyclicals, no?

Heck, even before the advent of the internet I was able to read Humanae Vitae from cover to cover!

e Catholic Church has all the old documents in its vaults. The only thing other religions have is the Bible because they don’t have access to the other documents. The only thing other religions have is the Bible because they don’t have access to the other documents. Maybe if they had the other documents, they might be able to see a whole different world that our own heirarchy can see?
Could you be specific? What “documents” does the Catholic Church have in its “vaults” that other Christians do not have access to?

The Catholic would now respond, “How curious that there are some who are so unfamiliar with Catholic teaching that they would proffer that it’s ‘one verse’ that supports the Catholic Church’s teaching on _____”

Scriptural support of the Catholic sacrament of Reconciliation:
👍 Thanks for all the Bible quotes! I collected all of them that you posted.

Ah, yes, not here on this thread.

I believe them to be radical 🙂

That, I’m sorry, would be a waste of my time. Sorry. I’m not going to do a search and comb them up.

Is there another alternative? In order for them to believe:It must be in the Bible, the burden of proof is on them to explicitly show where the Bible makes such claim?
But … did that work? Did you get them to concede that you were right and they were wrong?

Why would they want to read a copy of the catechism or an encyclical?

Oh, I’m sorry, am I mistaken? I thought that the vatican library was closed to the public? Did they make everything available? I didn’t know…

Of course my position holds more weight. Unfortunately, many will still dance around it because they rather stick to their novel beliefs than accept the fact their position is bogus.

Ah, then, I know you won’t begrudge me the fact that I am am very doubtful that you have “read many times that all non-Catholics are heretics and that all are going to hell.” At least not here on the CAFs. 🤷

It is very dubious that you would read many posts here on the CAFs that “all non-Catholics” are heretics and going to hell.

That’s just not a Catholic way of thinking. 🤷 And most of the Catholic posters here (outside of the Traditionalist thread) are quite cognizant of the Church’s teachings regarding EENS.

And…does that work? Did that convince them that you were right and they were wrong?
I think you are operating under the misapprehension that for something to be true it has to “work” or “convince” someone.

One need only look to the example of Jesus to see that someone may proclaim the Truth but it may not convince many. 🤷

But … did that work? Did you get them to concede that you were right and they were wrong?
Usually providing sound apologetics is not going to lead to any non-Catholic conceding that the Catholic argument is correct.

As Catholic philosopher Peter Kreeft says, “Some people scorn apologetic reasoning [because] they decide with their hearts much more than with their heads whether to believe or not. The heart is our center, not the head. ** But apologetics gets at the heart through the head. ** The head is important precisely because it is a gate to the heart.” (bold mine).

Well, because, as you rightly proffer, we can’t just pick up the phone and call the Pope. 🤷

We’re talking about the ancient manuscripts of the NT. Every Scripture scholar, Catholic or not, (with the right credentials, of course) has access to them.

Your comment about secret documents was in response to my post here:

Sound apologetics alone is not going to lead to any non-Catholic conceding that the Catholic argument is correct. Usually, it is by apologetics and prayer.

I agree, it’s not a Catholic way of thinking. The next time I see it, I’ll PM you 🙂
