Mar.12 - Wk 2 - Day 2 - seeking understanding of Mary

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today we continue seeking knowledge of Mary as St. Louis encourages us in his treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary:

1. Each day of the second week they should endeavour in all their prayers and works to acquire an understanding of the Blessed Virgin and ask the Holy Spirit for this grace. They may read and meditate upon what we have already said about her. They should recite daily the Litany of the Holy Spirit and the Ave Maris Stella as during the first week. In addition they will say at least five decades of the Rosary for greater understanding of Mary.

Besides asking the Holy Spirit for the grace of understanding Mary, St. Louis wrote that we may also read and meditate on what we have already said about her. The entire treatise is such a beautiful gift of grace from God to St. Louis it seems we could take any part of it and meditate to receive a share in such grace of understanding. Today for me, the first line of the hymn Ave Maris Stella is one to meditate:

“HAIL, O Star of the ocean, God’s own Mother blest, ever sinless Virgin, gate of heav’nly rest.”

Mary truly is our “Star”- as she radiates God’s Light to us that we may behold in her the Model for Christ’s Bride the Church. Like the Church Mary is both Mother and Model, and as the Church’s holiest member she is ever sinless. We see in her a “gate” that leads us to Jesus Who is our Way, our Truth and Our Life. He is the Door to Eternal Life. She brings us closer to Him in Whom we find our rest now and our hope for heavenly rest. You may have more thoughts on De Montfort’s words or on the prayers.
