Mar.13 -Wk 2 - Day 3 - seeking to understand of Mary

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today we come again to ask the Holy Spirit for grace to understand Mary, our Mother. St. Louis de Montfort in the early pages of his treatise on True Devotion admits:

1. Mary is the supreme masterpiece of Almighty God and he has reserved the knowledge and possession of her for himself…

Is it any wonder then, that St. Louis exhorts us to ask the Holy Spirit for grace? If we are to understand Mary we are completely dependent on God Who created her without sin from the first moment of her conception. Mary remained Faithful Daughter of the Father, Mother of the Son and Spouse of the Holy Spirit on this earth and it is God Who reveals her to us. Yet, as exalted as Mary is in heaven as our Queen and Mother, Jesus tells us from the Cross:

Behold your Mother (Jn 19:27)

God does not ask the impossible from us but desires that we receive His Grace as Mary did and know as she does “Nothing is impossible with God”. God desires us to behold Mary our Mother on Calvary where we see her perfectly one with His Will. Mary the New Eve has grown more in grace each moment of her life, as we are called to grow in holiness. Truly, Mary is both Mother and Model of the Church. God wants us to freely choose to love her, by His Grace as she chose to love Him and to love us, by His Grace. She is all we are called to be.

Dear MariaChristi,

About 7 weeks ago, I had made an appointment to have a conversation with my parish priest. I saw him the following week, and we spoke for over an hour concerning my life, and my Spiritual Life. We had a wonderful conversation, and at the end of that conversation, I told him of my very deep desire to have a loving, and Holy devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and thus far, after 3 years of weekly prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, I had not received from God’s Grace, the path to follow, in order to be blessed with that devotion to Her.

The first words out of the priest’s mouth were, “Read the book… True Devotion To Mary, by St. Louis De Montfort.”

I purchased the book, and I must confess that I have not progressed very far in it. I read the first few chapters, and the pages were filled with so much richness, that I felt that I must go back to the beginning, and re-read from the start, up to where I had left off, and then go back to the start, and re-read it again, while each time, I would gain a new insight, as if the words were jumping from their pages…

It may take me awhile to finish the book, after re-reading the pages over and over, and I can say that the book has become my most treasured of books.

In this “Week 2” of your posts, I find that I am reading, and re-reading your entries of the “Quotes” from that book. You are right when you said that it is difficult NOT to underline each sentence from the “Quotes.” Those words, beg to be read over and over, so that each sentence will fully, “sink in,” and be embedded within me.

Thank you dear MariaChristi, for leading us during this journey towards Consecration.

I would like to add…

At yesterday’s Mass, in our parish priest’s Homily of our Lord’s Transfiguration, he began with a few distinct, and opposing parallels of the Transfiguration, and the Day of Crucifixion.

At the Transfiguration, He was on a mount, where He was in His Glory… on the Day of Crucifixion, He was on Mount Calvary, where He was humiliated, and rejected.

At the Transfiguration, His Face “shone like the Sun,” … on the Day of Crucifixion, His face was covered with His Blood, and spit from the soldiers, and crowds.

At the Transfiguration, Jesus was in between Moses, and Elijah, two exulted prophets… on the Day of Crucifixion, He was between two criminals…

How perfectly, God provides ALL we truly need! Thanks again for sharing His Goodness with us and encouraging us toward greater Faith, Hope and above all Charity!

If I might add, also Jesus was between Mary and John – Mary’s Heart was pierced with her Son’s Heart and John took Mary to his heart. Jesus is the friend of sinners on the crosses to His left and to His right and yet, He looks also to those at the foot of His Cross.

Thanks for your reply to our brother Jim and to me. Someone said, “You can’t have too much simplicity!” – I need to look that up; it may have been St. Thomas Aquinas who said it.

Certainly, we know Jesus told His disciples (cf Mt. 18) to turn and become as “little children”.
Little ones are not complicated, they are simple, they focus on what is before them.
