Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Continuing to pray yesterday, the day after praying my Act of Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, I’m more convinced today – the words of that prayer are important. As I considered what title to give this post I thought of the most important “Word” – The Incarnate Word - Jesus! So today let us begin to ponder the words given by God to St. Louis de Montfort:
ACT OF CONSECRATION
Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary
by St. Louis de Montfort

O ETERNAL and incarnate Wisdom! O sweetest and most adorable Jesus! True God and true man, only Son of the Eternal Father, and of Mary, always virgin! I adore Thee profoundly in the bosom and splendors of Thy Father during eternity; and I adore Thee also in the virginal bosom of Mary, Thy most worthy Mother, in the time of Thine incarnation.
On the Feast of the Annunciation, I prayed these words, but it has become urgent for me to LISTEN prayerfully to the words of the prayer more closely, in order to live those words. In a sense, I’m asking God to make these words live in my flesh, enabling me to be transformed as Mary was transformed by God’s Grace into His Image.

Hopefully some will join me in praying for His Grace to transform us more completely, not only for ourselves individually, but to pray for the spiritual renewal of the Church and the conversion of the world. As the Angel told Mary: “Nothing is impossible with God”. It begins with our deeper “Yes” in humility and the obedience of Faith, with Mary to continue listening to all Jesus said and did and to ponder all in our hearts.

Today, let us begin with the words, as St. Lous wrote them:
I adore Thee profoundly in the bosom and splendors of Thy Father during eternity; and I adore Thee also in the virginal bosom of Mary, Thy most worthy Mother, in the time of Thine incarnation
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful. Kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Jesus we trust in You. Mary, Mother and Model for the Church, pray for us. St. Joseph Protector of Little Jesus and Mary, pray for us.

Dear KBS,

Thanks so much for your faithful and loving “heart”. I spent some time this morning pondering the beginning words of St. Louis de Montfort’s “Act of Consecration to Jesus through Mary”, after posting it. It really is a remarkable prayer!

How grateful I am to the Holy Spirit for prompting me to spend more time on the words given to St. Louis de Montfort for the whole Church - for all the sons and daughters of God and Mary and not just for St. Louis Himself. It was significant to me in listening and hearing more deeply:
O Eternal and incarnate Wisdom!
St. Louis addresses Jesus as God and Man. God had no beginning - He always was and will be Eternal Wisdom but the only Son of the Eternal Father and of Mary ever virgin chose to become incarnate Wisdom in the womb of Mary, always virgin. O sweetest and most adorable Jesus!

St. Louis de Montfort wrote this Act of Consecration at the end of his book, “The Love of Eternal Wisdom” which was written before he wrote “True Devotion”. It is based on the Old Testament Book of Wisdom and it is also online and in Paperback. Personally, I think St. Louis’ Treatise on “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin” was an outgrowth of his book on the “The Love of Eternal Wisdom”. Both are beautiful works given to the Church.

Online version of “The Love of Eternal Wisdom” can be read HERE

Back to the words of St. Louis “Act of Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary”: I hope readers of this thread may take time to ponder the words of his prayer especially those who prayed the words. After pondering just the brief excerpt I posted, I re-read the entire prayer to hear them again in the context of the whole prayer. How blessed the Church has been in her saints who asked and received such graces not only for themselves but for generations to come!

Thanks again for your “heart”, KBS which I trust the Lord is filling with His Love while He is drawing you and others closer to Jesus through Mary. Totus Tuus!

Dear Stephie,

Thanks for your faithful and loving “heart” also. After thanking KBS, I decided to go to the online version of St. Louis de Montfort’s book, “[The Love of Eternal Wisdom]” (The Love of Eternal Wisdom | EWTN), Chapter 17 in which he wrote this:
  1. Note that Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, Head of all the elect, but is also Mother of all his members. Hence she conceives them, bears them in her womb and brings them forth to the glory of heaven through the graces of God which she imparts to them. This is the teaching of the Fathers of the Church, and among them St. Augustine, who says that the elect are in the womb of Mary until she brings them forth into the glory of heaven. Moreover, God has decreed that Mary should dwell in Jacob, make Israel her inheritance and place her roots in his elect and predestinate (cf Sir 24.13).
  2. From these truths we must conclude:
  1. that it is futile for us to compliment ourselves on being the children of God and disciples of Wisdom, if we are not children of Mary;
  2. that to be numbered among the elect we must have a loving and sincere devotion to our Lady, so that she may dwell in us and plant the roots of her virtues in us;
  3. that Mary must beget us in Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ in us, nurturing us towards the perfection and the fulness of his age (Eph 4.13), so that she may say more truthfully than St. Paul, “My dear children, I am in travail over you afresh until Jesus Christ my Son is perfectly formed in you” (Gal 4.19).
Mary is such a gift from God! Yet so few seem to hear Jesus’s words from His Cross to John and to us all – deeply enough in their hearts:
“Behold Your Mother!”
May many others begin to appreciate the Wisdom God gave St. Louis De Montfort in writing about Mary, as you and KBS have appreciated, and continue prayerfully asking for God’s Grace to draw closer to Mary that all may draw closer to Jesus moment by moment until we are with Them eternally!

Come Holy Spirit, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love, enable us to turn and become true little children of Mary, that we may learn from her to be true children of God.
