In his treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, St. Louis de Montfort wrote:
Today is also the First Saturday of March and I was thinking how appropriate it is to be concluding this period of 12 days on “Mary’s Day”, getting ready to go forward. The first week begins tomorrow in which we ask the Holy Spirit to help us go more deeply into this preparation to give ourselves totally in Consecration to Jesus through Mary (or renew our Consecration). Let us ask our Mother especially to intercede for all of us on this journey. Those who are familiar with First Saturday devotions, know pondering the mysteries of Mary’s Rosary helps us to remain in Jesus and to overcome by the power of His Holy Spirit all that the world can tempt us to love more than God. Let us, by His Grace, love Him more!
“O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in your servants, in the spirit of holiness, in the fullness of your power, in the perfection of your ways, in the truth of your virtues, in the communion of your mysteries. Today ends that preliminary period but as we know, “emptying of ourselves” is an ongoing battle. We are in the world, but by God’s Grace we can still “remain in Jesus” (cf Jn 15:5) that by His Grace, we do not allow the spirit of the world to cause us to oppose Jesus. We will be tempted – yes, but we can resist opposing Jesus. We do not need to keep on sinning as the world does. By God’s Grace, we can overcome temptation and remain in the world but not “of it”. Let us thank God for the graces of these 12 days.
