Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today is the last day in our 12 day preliminary period on the journey to Consecration. Of course we cannot completely “empty” ourselves of the spirit of the world which opposes the spirit of Jesus in just 12 days! Nevertheless, St. Louis de Montfort knows we need to make the definitive choice: “Whom will we serve?” We cannot serve 2 Masters. It is not a “trivial” choice we make; it is choosing Life in Christ or death in the spirit of the world. We make the choice everyday - but are we always conscious of it?
Lent is a blessed time to be on this journey – the entire Church is called to repentance for sin and to look forward to a renewal of Baptism at Easter. This morning as my husband and I prayed the Liturgy of the Hours I was particularly blessed by the first psalm we prayed, Psalm 51. The verse that blessed me especially was:
Tomorrow, God willing, we begin Week 1 and St. Louis de Montfort continues to help us on this journey to holiness. Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of Your faithful, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Mary, Mother of the Church pray for us. Jesus we trust in You! St Louis de Montfort, pray for us.

May this be our cry to the Lord today on this First Firday of Lent. Let us look at Jesus on the Cross, and see His Sacred Heart pierced, and see Him “emptying Himself”. Let us Behold our Mother beneath His Cross with her Immaculate Heart pierced in union with Jesus, spiritually. Let us spend today in a spirit of reparation, and trusting that God Who has begun a good work in us, will bring it to completion. The First Letter of John assures us that one who hopes in Him will purify himself as He is pure (cf 1 Jn 3:3). We are called to heroic Faith, Hope and above all Charity!
