Dear Brothers and Sisters,
By God’s Grace, we continue today on our journey towards Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary or our renewal of that Consecration. While we began with seeking to empty ourselves of the spirit of the world which opposes the spirit of Jesus, now St. Louis de Montfort urges us to ask the Holy Spirit that we may see ourselves in His Light. St. Louis also urges us to beg our Mother Mary to obtain… that great grace which is the foundation of all others, the grace of self-knowledge.
It is easier perhaps for us to see how the spirit of the world opposes Jesus than it is to look into our own hearts and see how we have imbibed some of the spirit of the world and continue ourselves to oppose Jesus. Yet, how necessary it is for us to see ourselves as we truly are, by God’s Grace. The prayers St. Louis tells us to pray this week can really help us.
For instance, in the Litany of the Holy Spirit, we pray: “Holy Spirit, inspire us with horror of sin.” Do we have any real “horror” of sin in our hearts, or do we readily excuse ourselves daily, hourly, moment by moment when we prefer the things of the world to seeking God? So often we hear from others and from ourselves, “I’m not that bad! It isn’t even a venial sin.” or even “It is, after all, only a venial sin”. Have we forgotten every sin offends God? Have we forgotten God’s Word : “Be holy as God is Holy”? Let us humble ourselves before our God Who is Love, Whom we have offended in many ways , but whom we are seeking now, by His Merciful Grace, in the depths of our hearts.
