Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This first week of seeking “that great grace which is the foundation of all others, the grace of self-knowledge”, is usually the hardest for me. Why? It is difficult to know ourselves as God knows us. We are not God and we suffer the consequences of original sin inherited from our first parents: darkened intellects and weakened wills. Nevertheless, I recognize the wisdom of St. Louis de Montfort in writing this 33 Day Preparation for Total Consecration of ourselves and also his urging us to renew it often.
Truly when we prayerfully enter this journey, we see how it is leading us to a “perfect renewal of our Baptismal promises”. We are continually seeking to renounce satan, to renounce his pomps and works and all his empty promises and like Abraham we set out in faith, on our journey to God Who has called us.
On this 5th day of the First week, I’m grateful to learn more about humility (which is truth, as St Teresa of Avila, by God’s Grace, wrote). I’m grateful to be asking the Holy Spirit’s and Our Lady’s help in prayer and to be reading more from St. Thomas Aquinas on Humility and it’s opposite: Pride.
St. Thomas says that “pride makes a man despise Divine Law.” In his Summa, the saint wrote:
“The proud”, St. Thomas concludes, “through delighting in their own excellence distain the excellence of truth.”
Let us gratefully continue our journey, praying with attention, devotion and ever deepening faith, hope and above all Charity:

Likewise, the Angelic Doctor continues, "The proud person does not want to learn from other men, as the Scripture says, “If thou wilt incline thine ear, thou shalt receive instruction.”(Sirach 6:34)
